Be careful with the exercising until things are checked out. Bubb eGittel. I have had an elevated pulse rate for years and quite awhile ago our pCP sent me to a cardiogist who insisted I did not need thyroid meds, well the retests with no meds showed that i do indeed need thryoid meds. Sometimes if you are hypo you can have elevated pulse rate. Bubbe Gittel************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

I am hypo (Hashi's) and have a history of heart palpitations. I'm

currently taking Cytomel (T3) and just started taking additional T4

yesterday. (I know many of you prefer Armour, but I experienced

horrible palps on it. I'd like to try it again in the future once I

figure out what's going on with my heart.) I am also taking

Iodoral. I'm currently on 3 pills/day (37 mg) and working my way up

to 100 mg. This morning I exercised (I think I overdid it a little)

and now my heart is acting crazy. I felt palps during exercising and

afterward my heart rate wouldn't come down. Now (5 hours later) I

can sit still and get my heart rate down, but the minute I move

around it jumps back up to 120/min. I've never experienced this

before—scary!!! Has anyone experienced this? Could it be the

additional T4? Too much exercise? I know my adrenals could be an

issue, but my doctor wants me to be on a full regiment of Iodoral

before he does anymore testing. He seems to think the Iodoral will

make some improvements, then he'll " fine tune " me. I understand his

method, but is it backward?

Thanks so much,

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

I was taking synthroid and the Doc put me on Cytomel too and I

started experiencing heart palpitations. I spent many a time at an

emergency Doc visit b/c my heart was doing some strange stuff. My

heart rate ended up dangerously high and I wasn't allowed to exercise

until it was brought down. I had to come off both synthroid and

cytomel for about 2 months and then the Doc gradually started me on

synthroid again.

sometimes I find just taking my pulse makes it rise—not suggesting it’s not the meds, but sometimes our minds race and the heart follows...

I am thinking Iodoral and Cytomel are causing the high heart rate..

T4 has a 7 day half cycle and takes 6 weeks for your body to feel the

full effect at that dose..

Read my response regarding iodine..

We only prefer Armour here if that is what works for you..to be honest

if standing on your head doing three spins and then taking your meds

works then don't let anyone stop you..

Even with Armour it is important to realize what T4 , T3 do, how they

function and how your body utilizes it.

I too had problems with Armour, tried it at varying doses for a year.

The ratio in Armour of T4 to T3 is too heavily weighted, as compared

to human physiology, to excess T3. So when you get enough Armour to

bring your FT4 into compliance, which I believe gives me good reserve,

the FT3 levels would be elevated, TSH very suppressed, and I would

feel awful, hyper. If I cut the dose of Armour, to bring the T3

levels down, reduce hyper symptoms, I had lowered T4, and no reserve,

hypo. Just couldn't get it right. Went back to Levoxyl, still not

perfect, tweaking the dose slowly, I think a little more will come

closer, but going slow. I', afraid to try Cytomel addition, took it a

couple times b4, unfortunately at a wrong time, when I was slightly

hyper, so it sent me over the top. Now that I'm closer to

" euthyroid " , whatever that is, lol, I wonder if a slight addition fo

Cytomel might help without being problematic.??

Anyone done this please reply.

Thanks
