Guest guest
Hello There, I'm new at this and just want to express myself. When I was 22 I went on a trip to Europe and in London I got wet from the rain and got sick. Turn out that I got a severe throat infection. After the trip I felt very tired, gain a lot of weight (about 30 pounds in 6 months) my hair started to look pretty bad (before was the most beautiful hair) and started to feel very upset for nothing. A few years passed by and I met my husband today. Her mother also has thyroid problems and I saw a lot of the things that she has that I also have. So one day talking to my psycologist (treatment for depression) he recommended to go to a good Endocrinologist to take a look at my thyroid. The day came and only looking at my throat he told me that I have thyroid problems. So he decided to do a Biopsy to be sure. It turns out that my thyroid has 2 nodules and my thyroid is dead so I have Hashimoto's Desease and it was from that trip that the bacteria went to the thyroid and my inmunne system kill it in the process. The years passed by and I only felt so depress because of my weight. From a size 5 now a size 14. Now I have two beautiful children ( a girl and a boy) and recently I had the boy and found out that I have Hyperthyroidsm like the pregnancy before. After giving birth my thyroid change to hyper and now I can't sleep one day and the other I'm sleeping for long hours (after my husband come back from work of course), eating too much but I can't help it because you are always hungry and it is not thirsty because I drink daily 2 1/2 liter of water because I'm breastfeeding. Also I have a big problem retaining water so my weight is crazy coming up an down. I think that my body is pretty out of control and don't know how to deal with it. I'm trying to do exercise but I feel so drained and tired that at the end of the day I'm sleeping in my bed and don't have the strengh to do it. Any comments of how to improve or any comments at all are welcome and thank you for reading... Marilyn
Guest guest
Hi there, I am new to this group too. I have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. I feel your pain because I too suffer from many of the same problems you mentioned in your post. I am hoping to get pregnant this year. I wanted to start a family before but I had such a bad experience with thyroid specialists and medication I gained a lot of weight and my system was really messed up. I have lost 60lbs through sheer determination, exercise, and a very strict low glycemic diet. I am only just under 200lbs now and I am only 5'2 " . I turned 37 earlier this year so I don't want to postpone having children too long but I struggle each day with feeling tired, depressed, etc... I went back to school as an adult and was always tired. Dr. told me I was just doing too much and eating the wrong foods. I was working out plus working and going to school. I attended weightwatcher meetings and followed the plan but still managed to gain weight. I would come home and cry after I gained week after week. Dr. still said nothing was wrong. I paid to see a specialist and found out about my thyroid problem. I saw another specialist that kept increasing my synthroid and finally added another medication and it caused me to have a medically induced overdose. I had heart palpitaions and felt absolutely awful. On a second opinion I was told I had hypo & hyperthyroidism at the same time, my heart rate was dangerously high and I had to come off all medication and wait for some time to get it out of my system. I was told to look into lap band surgery b/c I would never lose more than 20lbs by myself. I am much better now than before and of course I did lose more weight but I still feel so lousy too often. My hubby is really understanding but I know it is hard on him too. I eat healthy, I work out regularly, take my medication, drink lots of water but still feel lousy. Sorry to go on but I feel like I have no one to talk to about this or that no one understands. > > Hello There, > > I'm new at this and just want to express myself. Guest guest
Marilyn You don't say what tests this endo ran, what the thyroid disease diagnosis was to cause the hypo (autoimmune Hashimoto's?), or what you're being treated with----Synthroid, other T4, combination of T3 and T4 synthetic, or Armour Thyroid?? Do you have any test results of history of these tests? Hypothyroid and Post-Pregnancy > Hello There, > > I'm new at this and just want to express myself. Guest guest
Hi , Beleive me when I tell you I understand completely. To tell you more I'm 30 now but when I was 26 my OBGyn told me that I couldn't have children and one of the reasons was because of my overweight (the other reason was because I have polysistic syndrome). I had a second opinion and this other doctor told me also that I can't have children for the same reasons. Not only I felt more depress the doctor also told me that he will give me $200 of credit in the treatment to get pregnant if I lose 30 pounds.Sureeeeeee it is easy specially if you try and try and try and nothing works to lose the pounds. I gave up trying to have a child and the next month I was pregnant.....lol!!! Not only the doctor was in shock, he couldn't believe it!!!! And to make things more exciting this year I had my second child just to make sure that the doctors not always known everything... I also have a great husband that understand me and is always helping me to feel good about all this and also helping raising two children under the age of 3. But no one understand completely except if the other person is having the same situation. I'm using Synthroid since the beginning and right now I have to much dose but the doctor is giving me a 2 month period because I need that extra energy to care for my children. Guest guest
, What I remember because this was when I was 22 years old and now I am 30 is the T4 was 6.5 and the biopsy was a long neddle that they insert from your skin to your throat and doesn't hurt. He put me in Synthoid .75mcg but right now I'm in 100mcg because of the pregnancy and the result that I took at the beggining of this month shows that I have to much dose and my thyroid turn to hyper. The doctor will give me 2 month period because I need the extra energy and then I will take the blood test again and its called the Thyroid Panel with TSH to see the level and to low me the dose. Guest guest
But isn't it true that this doctor is going only by your TSH at this Point? If so, this is the wrong way to adjust dosages. I've seen people with very low TSHs (I'm one of them), but have unreasonably low thyroid hormones, that is, FREE T4 and FREE T3. The test you had is a TOTAL T4, which is a very inaccurate status of thyroid hormone, it includes the BOUND and unbound hormone. It is the unbound hormone that you want to measure, in order to be accurate. Thousands of doctors don't understand this at all. Go to www.healthcheckusa.com and you can get your own thyroid tests run locally, by your own power. It is the #II thyroid package. Guest guest
, The results when I was 22 years old were from my first Dr. in Puerto Rico. I have been with 3 doctors and since 2004 I move to the U.S. and the difference that I found is that the doctor in P.R. onlywanted to know the results from the T4 free. Both doctors here in the U.S. are only interested to know the results of the TSH. When I had my first child in 2005 I remembered that my thyroid change from hypo to hyper and the doctor lower my dose from .75 to .56 (half from 112mcg) . Then about 2 month after I took the test and the TSH was 42.086. She was in shock and I remember that I was pretty bad because I couldn't even go to the gym because I felt so tired. She change the dose to 112 and then 125 one month later because the results from TSH were 3.343 and she wanted to be lower. In the second pregnancy it was diferent because the first pregnancy I was always in .75 never change until after birth. In the second from 125 I went up to 137 and then 150 and then now to 100mcg. So as you can see I have been in a lot of adjustments in the past 3 years. Guest guest
You need to go by the thyroid hormones, NOT the pituitary hormones----FREE T4 and the FREE T3.
