Guest guest
I know this is completely off topic..but I have a 5 am alarm clock, this alarm clock is in the form of a woodpecker..now I have checked with Critter control..( they catch and release) but the woodpecker is on the endangered species list( I can see why) and it is mating season so it can not be touched. What I need is some ideas.. it seems to like just below the window of my boys room.. I tried a few streamers and they disappeared.. Guest guest
Got some of the AOL and PeoplePC starter CDs laying around? Hang a few of them on strings, mobile style, right where he's been hammering.. the flashing from the CDs seems to bother a lot of critters. I also remember reading once that someone stuck tin foil over the spot where they woodpecker was hammering that that made him move on. It wouldn't be a be a bad idea to check to see if there might be some bugs that he's eating in case it's not just him hammering for some lovin'. I'm getting ready to face of with the Cardinal that returns here every year. He sits in the pine outside my bedroom window every morning and at 4:30 starts his squawking as he declares our yard HIS territory. I've decided I'm not giving him that hour of my sleep every morning... It's me or him. I'm bigger. I think I'll win. He and his bride are scoping out the bushes under our bathroom window, on the other side of the house.... I've knocked nests out of there the last three years, and they keep coming back.... Our yard used to be filled with robins and doves and chickadees and pretty little sparrows and finches... now it's cardinals, blue jays, crows and grackles, they are keeping everything else away. We've even taken down all the bird feeders and the bird bath trying to get rid of them. Guest guest
Hi Kats3boys....my dh has a degree in wildlife...this is what he says. Hang a decoy...like an owl right outside the window or put a picture of someone in the window that the wp would see if he is right at the window. Otherwise, the decoy would probably be the best. you can get them at hunting stores or order one from Bass Pro or Cabela's online. DH says a strobe light might work as well. OH....he also said nice garden shops might have an owl decoy. HTH, Kat > > Got some of the AOL and PeoplePC starter CDs laying around? Now I am in a townhouse complex, would mounting the owl on the top of the privacy fence work or would I need to mount it on the roof? or just under the roof area or? Guest guest
sounds liek the CD is the same pinciple as the strobe light. Hope it works. AS for where to mount...I would mount as close to where he is pecking as possible. You'll have to keep us updated. I phoned the property managers and well they were not to helpful.. I guess I am not the only unit hit by these birds..and got told not to waste my time..with a few units they have patched the holes..but streamers up etc.. and the birds just move over about 2 feet and start again.. The property managers have also been offically told that if any of the birds get hurt they will be charged and have the management license pulled.. Basically we need to leave them alone, document the damage and it will be repaired once the birds move on.. Kats3boys
