Guest guest
Silly question, why do different labs have difference ranges? Best, Bubbe Gittel************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
These are my lab tests from feb and march. Something is really going on with the T4 and I don’t get it. The lab has screwed up the last two tests I have ran there. So they didn’t run free t3 this time. 2/21/07 TSH ..004 ref .35 – 5.50 T4 direct 1.11 ref: .61 – 1.76 T4 (thyroxine) 8.3 ref: 4.5 - 12 T3 Uptake 32 ref: 24- 39 Free thyroixine index ref 2.7 ref: 1.2 – 4.9 Triiodothyronine T3 213 ref: 85- 205 3/22/07 EBVCA (IgG/M) 27 ref: <100 for negative EBV Ab VCA, IgG 2095 high ref: >120 Triiodothyronine, free Serum 4.9 ref: 2.3 – 4.2 Thyroxine (t4)free dirct, S T4, free direct 1.19 ref: .61 – 1.76 TSH ..005 ref: .35 – 5.50 Thyroxine (t4) 8.3 ref: 4.5 – 12.0 T3 uptake 32 ref: 24 – 39 Free thyroxine index ref: 2.7 1.2 – 4.9 Triiodothyronine (t3) 231 ref: 85 – 205 I don’t feel hyper. I am having trouble sleeping, but that can also be the fact I am still in withdrawal from the anti-depressants. I’m not jumping out of my skin, my pulse is 80s/90s and my blood pressure is around 120/70s/80s. Pretty normal for me. I don’t feel like my heart is jumping out of my chest. I feel really tired. Probably the Epstein barr virus. But I’m not getting this. My T4s seem to be having issues. I do have issues swallowing, but that can also be my hiatal hernia, giving me that sensation. I do believe I will be going to get a scan on my thyroid. What else can be keeping my T4 low and pushing my T3 over the top. At the time of this test I was taking 3 ¼ grains. OH I’m still losing hair. It’s so annoying. It starts to get thicker then next I start losing it again. Uuugghhh!! I’m so frustrated!!! Guest guest
Honestly E, I don't know. I've just been told the T4 should be in the top 1/3 of the range and it's not, yet my T3 is over the top. I didn't take meds that day. So I'm figuring my body isn't converting something right. What do the labs look like to you?? hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: lab tests micki: Can you be a little clearer about your concern with your t4 and provide dosing information? Guest guest
Micki: You don't say what you are taking or how much....or if there are other meds/supplements involved. Without knowing this...it would be hard to give you good insights. I would guess that if you are not feeling perfect, your dose isn't quite right of whatever you are taking. Some people could have your bloods and feel perfect...so its really a game tweaking until you reach that sweet spot. A goal based solely on bloods is usually not the best approach...you see? I know it would be simpler if it was. One would need to know more about what you are taking to give you a better insight. ~E:) --- micki mouster71@...> wrote: > Honestly E, I don't know. Guest guest
E, This is what I'm taking. 3 1/4 grains armour and now I'm alternating days 3 1/4 and 3 1/2 grains. Alternate days. Vita dophilus plus 1/4 tsp a day l-thyrtophan 100 drops 2 x day (homeopathic version) chamomile 30 c several a day (homeopathic) tyler adrenal complex 2 morning 2 night (this may change this week when I see her) licorice 1/4 tsp a day Rescue rememdy 10 drops 2x a day b-complex 2 a day multi 2 a day Tri - efa 1 a day Cod liver oil pill 1 a day Whole body detox 30 drops a day (homeopathic) Magnesium malate forte 2 a day Cinnamon 1 a day Tumeric 2 a day Vitamin D3 2000 IU a day Vitamin C 2 capsule full a day. It's a powder, not sure the Mg. Iron (I'm anemic) B6 1 a day Multi mineral formula 1 a day Vitamin A 1 a day I think that’s all. I could be missing something. So I'm pretty well supported. It been close to a month now that the effexor has been stopped. I'm sure that played with my adrenals, but now I'm more tired then ever. Not sure why. Well probably part to the Epstein barr virus. But there has to be something else. I just want to cry right now!!! hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: lab tests > > micki: > > Can you be a little clearer about your concern with > your t4 and provide dosing information? > > Thanks, > > ~E:) > > > --- micki mouster71@...> wrote: > > > These are my lab tests from feb and march. > > Something is really going on > > with the T4 and I don’t get it. Guest guest
Micki: Thanks for laying that all out! Wow...okay. NOW....lets first tell you that as you may know theories about all this stuff abound and that we all tend to champion our own position, meaning....if one person takes all synthroid...THEY think that this is right....they guy who takes all Armour...thinks that is the " ONLY WAY. " The same goes for adrenal support, supplements, ranges and so on. AS if its not darned complicated enough, we have all these countering opinions and you just want to get well and get back to life. So...I'm with ya. I have found that its not so cut and dry and there seems to be some strident opinions in some articles and some boards that can get you lurching around like a jack-rabbit, because you don't really know what is causing what. Right? You can't help but agree that certain things sound plausible...but you don't know for sure so you go along with it. OKAY...... I tend to be one that says, we need to take things slow and question the assumptions. I look at your lowish t4 and see that you simply aren't getting enough from the Armour. THAT is normal. The ratio for people is incorrect..so this happens a lot...and even before you told me for sure you were on Armour...I'd pretty much guessed it. ITS tell-tale armour bloods. SAME thing happened to me and NO....I never felt good with a jutted out t3 and a lowish t4. In fact, I was lethargic and had lot of headaches, and brain fog. WHEN...I took ADRENAL support..I got even worse! Some purport this to be the best thing, but I found that I was not energized at all. I simply was a pained limp rag doll. EVEN..though I spent many years trying to take different forms....I found that it just didn't help, EVEN though it was apparent from what everyone said and still says that I REALLY need it. I found that it only confused me more. NOW...I have sworn off the adrenal stuff. Decided to just focus on getting the thyroid stuff worked out first. Not saying you should...but its important to give yourself the permission to admit it to yourself that if it doesn't seem to do all that is promised-- then its okay to not take it. SEE? Everything you add to your daily cocktail does matter and will influence what you can take and how much thryoid replacement you can take. In an endeavor to fix this same bloods layout you have, I finally decided to add some straight t4 to my Armour. Now....My t4 is in a much better place and my t3 isn't making me all tired. Too much t3 will do that to anyone if its high enough...EVEN if you are still hypo. EVEN and especially in my opinion if you also take " Adrenal Support. " ' Please be wise, and you will get out of this illness! Peace and light! ~E:) --- micki mouster71@...> wrote: > E, > > This is what I'm taking. > > 3 1/4 grains armour and now I'm alternating days 3 > 1/4 and 3 1/2 grains. > Alternate days. > > Vita dophilus plus 1/4 tsp a day > l-thyrtophan 100 drops 2 x day (homeopathic version) > chamomile 30 c several a day (homeopathic) > tyler adrenal complex 2 morning 2 night (this may > change this week when I > see her) > licorice 1/4 tsp a day > Rescue rememdy 10 drops 2x a day > b-complex 2 a day > multi 2 a day > Tri - efa 1 a day > Cod liver oil pill 1 a day > Whole body detox 30 drops a day (homeopathic) > Magnesium malate forte 2 a day > Cinnamon 1 a day > Tumeric 2 a day > Vitamin D3 2000 IU a day > Vitamin C 2 capsule full a day. Guest guest
Amen to everything you said here, but I'm looking at that L-Tryptophan she's taking and wondering if she shouldn't be taking that at all and maybe she doesn't have a serotonin problem at all. So many doctors like to make this assumption about the serotonin. This is obviously why she was taking an SSRI, formerly, but it's simply been changed to the natural direct form, L-Tryptophan, as though this is still a problem with her. Maybe it's not, maybe that's where the tiredness is coming from, oversleeping, etc....but who would know for sure without it being in the bloods. I'm of the opinion that the cortisol bloods and saliva tests given at around about the same time (both, mind you) do tend to prove each other, but when you are as many of these meds (natural or not) that she's on, you won't know what's what beCAUSE you're on so many of them at the same time. Seems to me that if you are low in cortisol, then you take cortisone (which is what it is). This round about stuff of building things up with other things, to me, is nonsense, as if the person were going to be able to make this substance on their own or by conversion from something else, then their body would already be doing it. Natural doesn't always mean better, when it comes to some things, and this stuff about " homeopathic " doesn't necessarily fly with me. I took all Armour til I got into 4 months upward of 2 grains, and it was then that my body let me know that I was never intended to have a T3 this high, or else maybe my body damage or age was letting me know that it could no longer tolerate a T3 this high. Her came the 160 pulse, nonrelenting, and I felt horrible. Armour is a great product, but it just may need a load of T4 added to it, whether we like that notion of taking synthetic or not, it may be the key, but then again, it may not. It is so hard from person to person to know. RE: lab tests Micki: Thanks for laying that all out! For technical reasons, it is easier and less expensive to measure the T4 level, so T3 is usually not measured on screening tests. Please be clear on which test you are looking at. We continue to see a tremendous amount of confusion among doctors, nurses, lab techs, and patients on which test is which. In particular, the " Total T3 " , " Free T3 " and " T3 Uptake tests " are very confusing, and are not the same test. Thyroxine (T4) . This shows the total amount of the T4. High levels may be due to hyperthyroidism, however technical artifact occurs when estrogen levels are higher from pregnancy, birth control pills or estrogen replacement therapy. A Free T4 (see below) can avoid this interference. T3 Resin Uptake or Thyroid Uptake. This is a test that confuses doctors, nurses, and patients. First, this is not a thyroid test, but a test on the proteins that carry thyroid around in your blood stream. Not only that, a high test number may indicate a low level of the protein! The method of reporting varies from lab to lab. The proper use of the test is to compute the free thyroxine index. Free Thyroxine Index (FTI or T7) : A mathematical computation allows the lab to estimate the free thyroxine index from the T4 and T3 Uptake tests. The results tell us how much thyroid hormone is free in the blood stream to work on the body. Unlike the T4 alone, it is not affected by estrogen levels. Free T4 : This test directly measures the free T4 in the blood rather than estimating it like the FTI. It is a more reliable , but a little more expensive test. Some labs now do the Free T4 routinely rather than the Total T4. Total T3: This is usually not ordered as a screening test, but rather when thyroid disease is being evaluated. T3 is the more potent and shorter lived version of thyroid hormone. Some people with high thyroid levels secrete more T3 than T4. In these (overactive) hyperthyroid cases the T4 can be normal, the T3 high, and the TSH low. The Total T3 reports the total amount of T3 in the bloodstream, including T3 bound to carrier proteins plus freely circulating T3. Free T3: This test measures only the portion of thyroid hormone T3 that is " free " , that is, not bound to carrier proteins. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) : This protein hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland and regulates the thyroid gland. A high level suggests your thyroid is underactive, and a low level suggests your thyroid is overactive. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope this helps you take a better look at your labs.. Non of the labs say FT4 or FT3..but using the index and totals they are more or less just questimates..the T4 direct I would assume to be accurate but I do not see where the T3 is free..and having estrogen and other hormones bounds the T3.. You really need to see if the T3 is a Free T3 or a total or a guess from using the index etc. Kats3boys

Best, Bubbe > Gittel************************************** See what's free at > http://www.aol.com. > Labs have different ranges because of a few reasons..one is being the standards set by the equipment they are using, another is units of measurement and the fun one is the reference ranges.. each testing unit does a random test on what is considered normal subjects..this creates the reference ranges..then also labs will adjust the ranges to show more of a demographic range..so they get a norm for the testing that they do. Guest guest
Triiodothyronine, free Serum 4.9 ref: 2.3 - 4.2 this lab is the free T3 at least that is what labcorp says it is. The local hospital uses the same terminology. I wish I could go to quest again, but my insurance does not allow it and I just can't afford to pay for all these labtests myself. My dtr ran all the tests that is supposed to be ran. Labcorp keeps screwing up!! I'm getting really annoyed. Labcorp also seems to use the different names for their labs. hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: lab tests > > These are my lab tests from feb and march.
