Guest guest
Hi. I rarely post, but I'm in desperate need of feedback and encouragment. I have Hashi's, dx in 2004 and have done really well on Levoxyl. I had a baby 10 months ago. Here are my TSH levels (I don't have any other levels) from my 6 week postpartum bloodwork until three weeks ago: Scale .5-5.5 June .14 August 5.4 October 6.1 November 2.33 March 5.94 Based on my March labs, the doc increased my Levoxyl from .75 to .88. However, the pharmacy filled the .88 with Levothyroxine. I started taking this on March 10. Within a week my pvc's went away and I was feeling great. At two weeks into the new meds, I started having the following symptoms gradually and are now getting worse each day: Increased hunger Lightheaded Increased heartrate (not an abnormal rate, just higher than my usual) Night sweats Increased bowel movements Tired Today, I took some leftover levoxyl I had to make .88, thinking it's the brand change. But I wonder if I'm now hyper because .88 is too much? Doc won't test for three more weeks. My questions: Do you think it's the branch change? Should I continue with same dose for the next three weeks? Should I reduce my dosage? I really need to take care of my little girl. I feel like I'm missing out. Thanks for your replies. Guest guest
Hi Irene, I have Hashis too and I know how frustrating it is to fluctuate. Your TSH level certainly increased to a high level, so I can understand why your doc wanted to increase the Levoxyl. However, the free T3 and T4 are the most valuable labs, so those would be helpful in figuring things out. Your symptoms could be due to 1. the increase in meds, 2. a possible difference in the generic, or 3. your adrenal glands are becoming fatigued. In my opinion, I think it's your adrenals based on the fact that for a week, you felt better at first. I had a similar experience - my body enjoyed the increase in Armour, but with the increase in energy, my adrenals became fatigued. Symptoms are similar to hyperthyroidism - when my adrenals are weak, I have tremors, I'm tired, can't concentrate, have a hard time dealing with stress, increased bowel movements, and increased hunger and light headedness. Are you familiar with the thyroid and adrenal connection? Has your doc tested your adrenals? What did your doc recommend when you told him how you're feeling? Did he just say come back in 3 weeks? If you're desperate, and he won't see you yet, you might want to "experiment" with the Levothyroxine...decrease it back to your original dose of .75. This might help you determine if it's possibly the increase or generic that's the problem. I hope this helps. Email anytime. ) briggy1997 wrote: Hi. Guest guest
Thank you for your response, . It's nice to know someone else has experienced this. I am aware of the adrenal connection but I haven't been tested for it. I only e-mailed my doc about the lightheaded feeling (that's all I had at the time) and the response I got was that he didn't think it was the meds and we'll see when we do bloodwork in three weeks. Nice. I have since contacted the pharmacy and had the rx refilled in my original brand, so I will take that tomorrow. I guess if I still feel bad after a few days, I'll decrease the dose to something in between .75 and .88 since I oboiously need something, but maybe not this much. I guess if I decrease the dose, I will wait to get the bloodwork done, espcially if I'm feeling better. I've got to try something! Thanks, Irene > Hi. When T4 is introduced into your system..your body feels good..it recognizes the T4 and is able to use it. Then because of the feedback loop system the TSH runs on, the body lowers the TSH not knowing where the hormone is coming from.. this lowers what your thyroid is producing. Consider it like taking three steps foward to have your body take one step backwards..this whole loop system takes 6 weeks to stabilze and reach optimal dosing for your body at that strength. With Hashimoto's you want to keep the TSH supressed below 1..as these flucuations can also cause flucuations in antibodies and cause them to increase.. I would stay on the same dose..your feelings of hunger , tiredness etc..could very well be from the body being able to use more food and needing more food then it has been use to.. just make sure you chose healthy snacks.. Get labs done in 6 weeks although because you are on a T4 medication, get the doc to run the FT4 lab on you so we can see how your body is responding to T4. Guest guest
Thanks, Kats3boys... The only thing I'm going to do is switch back to my original brand starting with tomorrows dose. I really do want to hang in there! Irene > > > > Hi. I rarely post, but I'm in desperate need of feedback and > > encouragment. I have Hashi's, dx in 2004 and have done really well > > on Levoxyl. Guest guest
Hi Irene, You're welcome! I know it's SO frustrating. I don't blame you for getting the name brand filled - I don't care what docs say, they're not always the same as generic. You're right about the bloodwork - you want it to be accurate when you get it done. In the meantime, maybe do some reading on adrenal fatigue. Even though it seems kind of backwards, the more energy your body gets from thyroid hormone, the harder your adrenals have to work. And if they can't keep up, you're going to feel like crap. You saying that you felt better at first tells me that the increase worked and now your adrenals are worn out and need some temporary help. One of my symptoms is that the glands in in my neck (under my chin) swell and hurt too as I get fatigued. If your doc tests your adrenals, remember that they're very sensitive. Even if the test says they're normal, they may not be for YOU, and/or the environment you're in at the time can affect them. I see a holistic MD...he didn't even test my adrenals, but diagnosed me with "adrenal fatigue" based on my symptoms. He gave me 5mg of Cortef each day to help them...he figured, it's such a small dose that it's harmless to the body...if the adrenals need it, they'll use it and you'll feel better...if the adrenals don't need it, they'll ignore it and you won't feel better. I felt much better in about 3 days. Do you think your doc would consider discussing your adrenals with you before 3 weeks? briggy1997 wrote: Thank you for your response, . Guest guest
, I don't think it's likely that my doc would do any testing until the three weeks are up. I think I can make it until then. I will just ask them to include the adrenal test with the thyroid labs. I had purchased some adrenal support previously....I don't know if I still have it or if it is expired. I'm just so afraid to take anything! I will do some reaserch on this in the meantime. Thanks! > > Hi. I rarely post, but I'm in desperate need of feedback > and > > encouragment.
