some more cytomel questions

1. I have been on cytomel (in addition to synthroid) for about 3 weeks

now and am experiencing some rapid heart beat and even mild chest pain.

My bloodtests are fine and my doc said to continue as usual - how

freaked out should I be about potential damage to my heart? Shouldn't I

be getting my heart checked out or at least listened to? other than

that I feel GREAT - much better than before the cytomel...

2. My previous doc told me not to take both meds at the same time and I

do not remeber why but this doc said to take the morning dose together

with my synthroid - does anyone know why this would not be a good idea?

Thanks, Esti

How much Cytomel are you taking at one time? It could be that the dose is

to high... if you split the dose into two or more times per day it evens

out the T3 levels and reduces the stress to the heart...

Some docs will have you taking too much, then say it's the Cytomel and

not the dose and then take it away with an 'I told you so'...

How long after the Cytomel dose are you feeling 'off' or does the feeling

stay??

How much Cytomel are you on and how much syntrhoid?

I take .112 levoxyl and 15 mcg of cytomel and feel great energy wise with no pain or palps.

my doctor is happy with my labs and my meds but I am gonna up them a bit cuz I know I do better with a high end range of FT4.

If you have had your heart checked, and any doc you go to should do that, that should put your mind at ease.

I take 0.05 mg of synthroid every morning and 5mcg of cytomel twice a day - one with the synthroid and the other in the early afternoon. The palpitations and pain do not seem to happen directly after the meds - more a matter of my anxiety and stress, for example when we're getting ready to leave the house or when I talk on the phone with my mother () and they go away when I play with my baby or go for a walk...but it definitely began shortly after I went on cytomel and I really have a relatively low-stress life. This does not disturb me - the pain is light but I worry about damage to my heart. what do you think? Estitopper2@... wrote: How much Cytomel are you taking at one time? hi esti,

sounds more like anxiety to me – I have that before I go to a doctor appt, or a school event, etc cuz I have anxiety.

if you ONLY get it when getting ready to go out, it could be a mild case of anxiety.

You can do many things: deep breathing, exercise beforehand, yoga, and of course, meds, which I don’t recommend but can help, and then affirmations.

I would go to my general doctor and RULE OUT HEART PROBLEMS of course, but it really sounds like anxiety — when you talk to your mother can it get confrontational or judgemental or is it relaxed?

I have never gotten a single palp from the cytomel – it gives me energy and warms my hands and feet and it’s actually mood stabilizing in some people.

of course, it could be your body’s reaction to the cytomel since it does rev up metabolism - have you thought of trying just one pill a day?

how are your numbers/

Sue
