Guest guest
HI — you are GREAT with number crunching this stuff and have helped me before. can I hit you up for some advice on what I need to do to " tweak " just a bit? I had labs drawn last week. I will give the background first then the numbers: Hashimotos/hypo with goiter since 2002. had radioactive uptake scan and ultrasounds, no nodules. on levoxyl .88 to start back then. fast forward to: 12/06 labs, on: 135 mg Armour (1.5 of a 90 mg pill) no meds taken prior to draw TSH: .52 range: (.5-5.50) <--not updated values for this lab obviously! T3F: 393 range: 230-420 <--love it, good energy T4F: .9 range: (.8-1.8) <--don't like it, gaining weight or not losing so, I switched back to levoxyl/cytomel since she would not up my armour and I would run out so I went back to cyto/levo plus it's 1/4th the cost. 3/07 labs .112 Levoxyl and 15 mcg of Cytomel no meds taken prior to draw TSH: 1.23 range: (.5-5.50) <--not updated values for this lab obviously! T3F: 271 range: 230-420 <--love it, good energy T4F: 1.0 range: (.8-1.8) <--don't like it, gaining weight or not losing I want to UP my T3F to at least 350 and get my TSH under 1. I was thinking of adding 1/4 of the 90 mg armour tabs I have left... what would that do? thanks! sue
Guest guest
The trouble with these mathematical things is that we don't know what it would do to YOU, as opposed to someone else, as you know it's so individual, but anyway----this wouldn't even be a 1/2 grain raise (22.5 mgs, instead of the 1/2 grain, which is 30 mgs of Armour). But it might be a good starting point. I kind of doubt that this small increase would raise your T3 up into the desired range (for you), or raise your T4 that much, as this would only be raising your T4 roughly to around what? 12 to 15 mcgs or so? And then the T3 would be raised up roughly only about what?? 2 to 3 mcgs or so?? This would also be considering that you are going to convert some of that little bit of T4 to T3 to add to what you've increased with straight T3, and all this would depend on whether you are a good converter to T3, plus if your body cells are utilizing it all properly. That's not much of a raise, but then we need to start slow anyway. My question would be How are you going to make this last, once you get it up higher, if he won't prescribe any more Armour, or maybe with this doc it is either/or, but not all 3 meds? To be economical and to use up the Armour, this would probably work, but then what do you do after the Armour runs out? IMO, and if I did better on the T4/T3 synthetic combo, then I'd be raising THESE two ever so slightly, instead of confusing the issue and adding the Armour, as you're only going to have to do away with the Armour, when you run out. What do you think that 25 mcgs of T4 added, along with just 5 mcgs of synthetic T3 would do? For YOU (who seems to do really better on this synthetic combo), it would seem the most logical, that is, if you are really feeling better on this combo. You're not having any other symptoms, right? No nervousness, high pulse, overheated, chest pain, or any of that? What is this doctor willing to do in upping your dose of the T4 and the synethetic T3? Anything I did (if it were me), I would do very slowly over time. Guest guest
Hi mary, Good answer and i have thought about it, but today she wrote me a script for exactly what i asked for. My plans of increasing on my own and then going back to her seem to work - the numbers convince her most. In any case i thought the armour would be easier to add back in since it would be t4 and t3 in one shot but i am not adverse to doing it witht he levo/cyto. i just wonder if a dash of armour won't hurt for the t1 and t2.... i just ordered a 3 month supply of the 90 mg cuz i had an old script for it that actually expires next week so i would be good to go for almost a year this way. i will think on it - so what is a good amount to raise slowly with T4? 25mcg at a time? thanks again, sue > > The trouble with these mathematical things is that we don't know what it > would do to YOU, as opposed to someone else, as you know it's so individual, > but anyway----this wouldn't even be a 1/2 grain raise (22.5 mgs, instead of > the 1/2 grain, which is 30 mgs of Armour). Guest guest
I think that, as said, it would probably be a small 25 mcg increase with the T4, but adding back some more T3 would probably help too, if you're feeling well on that 350 lab result, not the lower one. Guest guest
yeah, ok. I think I am converting cuz I upped my t4 and lowered my t3 meds from the last draw and my t3F did go up a bit which I think means I AM converting. I am gonna go with adding .25 mcg of levo and see what happens.... thanks! Sue I think that, as said, it would probably be a small 25 mcg increase with the T4, but adding back some more T3 would probably help too, if you're feeling well on that 350 lab result, not the lower one.
