Guest guest
41 yr. old female, diagnoised 8 yrs ago with hyoithyroid. Was on Synthyroid didn't do any good, started taking Armour self medicating 2 yrs. ago. Had high blood pressure last January was put on Avalide 12.5/150 once a day. Doctor gave me Armour then took it away said to much in my system. Had some chest pains going on went to family doctor in March this year, he took blood said tsh was 0.01 to stop taking any thyroid meds and find a endocrinologist. Sent me to a cardiologist also for a adnormal ecg. Cardio does echo and cardiolite stress test, went back yesterday for results, said test look good, but blood pressure goes up while on treadmill 148/101. Says stop all thyroid meds and she will find me a ednocrinologist to go to.Puts me on Toprol along with the Avalide I am already on (have not started - don't like side effects of Toprol) she said I am bouncing between hypo and hyper and that could cause high bp. Says I also have a leaky mitro valve but not serious nothing to worry about. I do not feel like I should stop all thyroid meds, I took 60 mg of thyroid-s this morning and will take 60 mg more tonight, will take the original Avalide for bp. Am waiting for dr. to call with endo appt. What do you guys think? Could this all be my thyroid. I have noticed that my throat feels like I have something stuck in it. Guest guest
You could be hyper..it is not that uncommon to hear of a few people being on replacement meds..and ending up developing Grave's disease. Being hyper does cause heart problems..what is your resting heart rate? Why some are hypo, some are hyper and some switch back and forth all depends on antibodies.. What you need run is a TSI,( antibody responsible for Grave's hyper) TRAB..total Grave's antibodies but includes both stimulating and blocking antibodies. TPO..an inflammation marker but also considered a Hashimoto's marker if it is more than 5 times the normla reference range. You also need your T4 and T3 done to see exactly what the thyroid is doing..I would get these done ASAP before changing med doses.. Armour and the other naturals do supress TSH but a supressed TSH does not tell the whole story. Did the doctor run any other tests on you? Cholesterol etc?
