Guest guest
Hi Brad, Your email address looks familiar and you do not say if you are new but if so, welcome! First, let me say that it is important to keep your blood pressure in a good range because high blood pressure is a risk factor for kidney disease all by itself even without an underlying kidney disease such as IgAN. My sympathies on the gout which I understand is very painful. I have thus far been spared attacks of gout so I am afraid I will have to defer to others to comment on the gout. I can say that I know we do have members on Allopurinol as preventive medicine though. I certainly can relate to the high potassium. I have had to practice very strict observance of a low potassium diet myself. I will defer to others to chime in on the gout but I do pray it clears up soon for you. BP was 190/100 continually. The specilaist started me on a dose of 5mg Ramapril as well. Creatinine was up to .48 at the time. I am now on Ramapril 10mg Bi/daily Attenolol 50mg daily as well as that mid last year I was starting to get more regular bouts of uric acid build up. GP started me on Allopurinol 200mg daily but this dose made the creatinine rise so was put back to 100 mg. things started to go smooth until my visit to the Specialist in April showed high K . Gave me another blood test for the record and started me on Frusemide 40mg daily to loser the potassium as well as the fluid retention. had 2 blood tests after that and K had gone down from 5.9 to 5.1 to 4.8. I just got another attack of gout this week and am taking another course of Prednisolone. Any way hope to hear from some of you out there in the big world who are going or have gone through the same experience. Yours from Cairns, Queensalnd(DOWN UNDER) Brad Carr. Guest guest
Hi Brad. Always nice to hear from members down under. We have had quite a few here. I've never had gout myself, even though I've been through the entire IgAN worse cae scenario right through to dialysis. I understand it can be extremely unpleasant though. Gout is not really thought to be a feature of IgAN itself, but some people who may already be prone to gout could be pushed over the edge by the chronic renal insufficiency. Furosemide will definitely help lower potassium, since it increases the elimination of both sodium and potassium. It can very rarely contribute to causing attacks of gout itself, but there's a good trade-off between that and what the drug does, I think. It should also really help lower your blood pressure. Allopurinol is the common treatment for gout, so that seems appropriate. Good luck. Guest guest
Thanks for the warm welcome . Yes I am new to Iga support group. I understand you completely about the bloodpressure, so far with all my visits to the Neph and GP the blood pressure has been fine 120/70 roughly. It seems with each thing, either the uric acid or potassium, things seem to be under control with both of them then the other one slowly creeps up behind you and you have to reshuffle your medication dosage again. My weight doesn't seem to want to drop and the Neph had put me on Frusemide for excess fluid as well as to control the potassium. The gout is slowly going away thanks to the Predislone. Cheers, Brad > > Hi Brad, > > Your email address looks familiar and you do not say if you are new but if > so, welcome! > > First, let me say that it is important to keep your blood pressure in a good > range because high blood pressure is a risk factor for kidney disease all by > itself even without an underlying kidney disease such as IgAN. > > My sympathies on the gout which I understand is very painful. Guest guest
Hi Brad, I always wanted to go to Queensland - had an old boyfriend who was very into Queensland opal. Gout is outside of my area of expertise - however. However there are several folks here who have first more first hand experience than I so hopefully one will chime in. I just wanted to welcome you to the email list. I'm glad that postassium is doing down. Guest guest
Walt, it's interesting that you mentioned this because I just had this discussion with my pharmacist last week. I too have gout, but it's in the toe next to my big toe and it stiffened up for a couple of days las week. I'm on daily amounts of allopurinol to keep the attacks at bay and colchecine for any flareups. I wasn't sure if you could take both allopurinol and colchecine together or not and I couldn't get the gout attack down enough to switch off the colchecine. According to my pharmacist (you may want to check with your own first) taking allopurinol and colchecine together is fine, as they work in different ways to deal with the uric acid. Allopurinol lowers the amount of uric acid excreted by the kidneys and colchecine disolves the crystals that form. Guest guest
Hi, Nice to hear from you I second the notion that I, too, am also still here and that I still exist LOL Love the way you put that. I am waiting on results from my final exams, I believe I passed all except calculus, which of course I've been working on forever but it's just simply a bad idea to take as a correspondence course, but I have had no other option between hypothyroidism, other illness/incidents, and moving. We're settled in quite nicely here in Japan, and I have tons of pictures in the gallery. I can't believe we've been here nine months now. Before long, we'll be counting down til moving back stateside instead of counting up from moving! Springtime has arrived, and the cherry blossoms are popping out everywhere. I've recovered a lot from the accident I had last February, though I still have pain on a daily basis in my upper back and neck, but the traction they have done with me here in physical therapy has really helped tremendously. I haven't had a dose change in my Synthroid since we moved here and they increased from 100mcg to 150mcg back in July, though I think I might be ready for a tweak now because I am really tired again, and the brain fog is moving back in. I hadn't decided if it was lack of sleep from studying for exams on top of a nasty cold, or if it was really thyroid related, but now that I've had plenty of time to rest up, and I'm still tired, I think I know the answer. I finally got my own little car to drive over here, though driving is still a challenge to me after the wreck. I can't seem to get past the mental/emotional trauma it caused to be rear-ended out of nowhere. I'm paranoid while driving now, always watching every angle, but especially wary of the people driving too closely behind me. I want a bumper sticker...if you can read this, BACK OFF! But people rarely pay attention, anyway, so I guess it wouldn't do much good. Anyway, spring festivals are abundant now, so more fun things are on the way to enjoy and experience. I hope to find out my grades soon, so I can either jump for joy over a miracle of passing and getting my diploma, or, more realistically, start trying to figure out a way to get through this annoying calculus class without actually being in a classroom (they don't offer it on base here, but they do offer it in the high school, but that puts me a whole year getting through that class then another 3 months doing the college class over with the new knowledge I learn in the class, so it is not a good thought to have to wait a whole year to do it, when I would much rather be working and making money and paying down bills). That's all for me for now www.Lane.com www.IwakuniMCAS.com http://stewartlane.com/gallery/ Be sure to check at the bottom of every set of pictures for more pages in the set. hi everyone I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here and that I do in fact exist . Guest guest
Hi , Good to hear that you are improving healthwise and that you are OK after the earthquake. It sounds very pretty there are you putting photos up here? Hope you passed with flying colors on those exams. Guest guest
I'm glad to hear you're well!! Have they had many Cherry Blossom Festivals yet? I swear when we get our house and our land, I will have a back yard with a huge koi pond, a gazeebo in the middle with cherry trees and mimosas... the ones that look like giant bonsai trees. We had one in my yard as a kid. We're also going to have it lanscaped with Japanese plants and shrubs as they tend to do very well in our area. I can dream, right . I am so happy for you finishing school the way you are! I've decided to take summer classes online and eventhough I'll have to pay for them through installments, I don't mind as it's going to be the only way I can pay for it right now. I decided on Biology/Ecology because there's so much I can do with the degree medically. Although, I may do something more standard like human resources for a minor or what not to, I'm not sure. Then again... I could do something fun like Asian Studies or What did you say you were majoring in again?? How is your Japanese coming? Have a great week! hi everyone I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here and that I do in fact exist . I've been pretty busy lately with work and its kept me on my toes. Guest guest
Photos are in my gallery at http://stewartlane.com/gallery/. Sorry, I should have mentioned it was in my sig line We haven't felt any earthquakes here lately, maybe a very mild sensation of one here and there, but I know there have been several fairly large ones within Japan lately. All is well here though hi everyone> > > > > > > I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here and that I do in fact exist . I've been pretty busy lately with work and its kept me on my toes. Guest guest
There was a Cherry Blossom festival on April 1st at Kintai Bridge (a funny shaped bridge here in town built with arches to prevent it from washing away in floods) but the trees aren't fully in bloom yet so I'll go maybe this weekend if we don't go somewhere else. I want pictures before the blossoms all go away. I haven't done a lot with the Japanese yet, waiting to see where I stand with school first before jumping into Japanese just to have to stop again for calculus. I'm going after a Computer Programming degree through Grantham University online. I think Biology/Ecology is a good way to go, I know you'll do great! I had a hard time with Bio and Chem because my little tiny rural high school didn't have the greatest classes to give you a very good foundation in those two areas, so I missed out and struggled in college with those. www.Lane.com www.IwakuniMCAS.com http://stewartlane.com/gallery/ Be sure to check at the bottom of every set of pictures for more pages in the set. hi everyone I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here and that I do in fact exist .
