Hello everyone...New Member here...

My name is Peggy. I reside in Ohio. I have graves disease, have taken

RAI to rid most of my thyroid. So, now I am on the Hypo side.

I have all the effects that most have listed, with the hair and nails,

bowel problems, weight gain, cold, tired all the time etc....

I am looking for friends to talk to, that understand what it is like to

have all of this.

Friends and family just dont understand what we each go through...

I am 48 years, a grandmother of 4, and would like to have my old life

back....

Hope to hear from you all soon...

Peggy

Hi Peggy and Welcome! Don't know where everyone is at, this board is

usually very busy, but it seems not many have been around for the last

couple of days. You are among those who understand here. Got any lab tests

done that are fairly recent, so we can ogle them and see about this? Always

get copies of your labs, as " normal " for you may be very different than what

some docs think. We are not cookie cutters and are all different. Some

people need straight synthetic T4, others need Armour Thyroid, others need a

combo of T4 and T3 synthetics. What are you taking and what about those

labs? How do you FEEL?

Hi Peggy,

Nice to have you here and boy do we all know what you are saying but

now you can say whatever and we all understand. For one having been

here for 3 years and getting really good advise from everyone I can

now say that this is the best that I have been in decades. Not one

size fits all but with what each contributes we make our own best

with how to deal with meds, food to eat and so on. It will take time

but it is so worth it to feel so much better, so whatever questions

you have put them out there and if you want to rant do that. We have

all done that from time to time and some of us more than others.

Lined things up a bit so you can see what you are looking at..

TSH should be below 1.. T3 is the hormone you feel..and the only

reason you are standing or able to understand this is from the direct

T3 you are getting from Armour.

T4 is in the basement..sorry..it should be close to the upper end of

the range..

You are definitely undermedicated, especially for someone with out a

thyroid to function.

If your doc thinks this is normal then time for a new doc..

If not then show these labs to the doc, tell the doc what symptoms

you are having and get an increase in your meds..

Kats3boys,

Thank you so much for your info. I have been trying for quite awhile to find some kind of Dr. Here in the Orlando area that really know about thyroid. The only person I have heard of is Dr. Klein. He don't take insurance and charges $450.00 for the first appt. and $189 for each after that. I think I'm going to make an appt. with him but was waiting to here from some of you to see if my levels are really off or if I'm just nuts. I wish I could find someone who takes ins. Because I haven't been able to work with the mental state I'm in. I can't concentrate at all and my memory is really bad. Thank god for spell check. Anyway thanks for you reply. Bernetta

Rather than a new doctor, since a good one IS hard to come by and it gets very frustrating, time-consuming and expensive going from doc to doc,

I would suggest first trying to work with and help educate your current doctor on your symptoms and what you want to do.

I had “normal” ranges and my doctor: added T3 to my levoxyl, then when those levels were “fine” she let me TOTALLY switch to Armour — and now I am back on levo/cyto.

it takes some work and maybe some convincing by a doctor really should work with you unless they feel it will harm you.

that said, I see my endo this week who has NO idea I went off the armour so I just may be looking for a new doc soon!

Hi, thank you very much for sending this. I just went throught everyone here and there is only 1 on the list that I haven't been too. I am going to call there and talk to them tomorrow. There was only one comment about this one and they didn't say much. Most drs. Just don't know about the thyroid. Bernetta

Don't know if it will help but check out www.ratemds.com

It not only lets you rate docs but lets other rate docs , so who knows

you might get an idea on a doctor that others like in your area.

Hi, yes I agree with what you are saying about working with the Dr. The lady I see is very nice but look at my levels. I tell her all my symptoms and she say the usual...your numbers look pretty good. So I would leave and that would be it. So I can tell her I want to up the dose but I have to know what to tell her first before I go in there. I think I need to find someone who know what I need to try. Thanks, Bernetta

Guess I'm curious why no one has responded, your Doc that is, to such

lab values, and symptoms??? Your TSH is a little high, and FT4 is

low????
