I've just been dx through a biopsy on Wed. I'm going to have a MRI next Friday and then see the surgeon the following Friday. PLEASE someone give me hope here. I'm so scared. Guest guest Posted February 3, 2007 Report Share Posted February 3, 2007 , I was diagnosed in May 1990 with infiltrating/invasive ductal carcinoma. Nuclear grade II Histologic grade II. With one bad lymph node. The lymph node involved was enlarged and extensively involved by the malignant tumor cells. There IS hope. Breast cancer is not the death sentence it was once thought to be. Sit back, take a deep breath and try to relax. Take it one day at a time or even hour by hour. My cancer was Stage II. There are ladies in our Stage IV sister group that are leading fairly normal lives. A lot of them have to stay on some sort of chemo for the rest of their lives. We are here for. I had infiltrating (invasive) ductal, bad nmargines etc. they got all the cancer, I had a lumpectomy..I am going through chemo and I am doing fine and everything looks good. Keep a positive attitude and try not to look at the bad side of things...it's hard I know! But you will get through whatever is ahead alot easier. Love and prayers! You will find this a fantastic group of survivors, and those of us who are struggling along. But the key is to think of live, not of dying. How I understand my situation is I was considered high risk just be positive BRAC 1, but with a reoccurence a year later, I'm even higher risk. Not sure how high risk goes! I started as Stage 1 but with the reoccurence the onc said there is no more staging now, if I had to stage it, it would be like a Stage III. So how I guess I understand my situation... if the cancer comes back, anywhere, aside from the right breast, it will then be uncurable, but treatable. To me, I think death sentence. If ac, taxol and radiation wouldn't work, and I'm talking ahead now with " IF " it came back, then what are my chances for anything working?? Thats why I keep saying, FIGHT and hope that a cure is around the corner!! Sorry, I'm usually the positive one.. I guess I just needed to vent my fear, especially since I get like this right before a followup which is Monday. Size, grade and whether it has spread to the nodes, estrogen status and Her2 status, all need to be considered. Don't be scared the other factors may work in your favor! Some are on chemo for the rest of their lives but a lot seem to do ok. If it comes back there are all different combos of chemo you can try. There seems to be news ones coming out regularly. Guest guest Posted February 3, 2007 Report Share Posted February 3, 2007 ...that isn't what my diagnosis was but I wanted to tell you to remain positive and hopeful. When I start getting down about my diagnosis I come here and read what the other ladies have to say and somehow it makes it better. Take things one day at a time and yes, YOU WILL LIVE. Treatments have come a long way, breast cancer isn't a death sentence anymore. Every time I see one of my doctors they really emphasize staying positive and how that helps the body and mind heal faster and more efficiently. Being scared is normal, but it won't help you get better and it will make you feel like crap all of the time. So laugh and live and try to enjoy the things that make you happy....you are still the same person and those things haven't changed. You just have to figure out how to get through this detour in the road and ocme out a stronger person on the other end. Keep reading and posting; it really helps. You'll be in my prayers. Learn all you can about the problem so you can deal with the solution. Remember, knowledge is power and we all need to feel the power. My experience is too old to really do anyone any good. I had one positive node. You need to try, know it is hard, to take a deep breath and like some of the others have said there will be other factors in your pathology that will help set up your treatments. Guest guest Posted February 4, 2007 Report Share Posted February 4, 2007 Hi , In July of 2006, I was also diagnosed with invasive poorly differentiated ductal carcinoma, stage IIb/IIIc, Grade 3, 2 poitive lymph nodes, ER/PR/HER2 negative (I was diagnosed at age 39). I've completed chemo and surgery and undergoing radiation. So far, everything has been a resounding success. Can't say it's always been easy, but I've always keep my eye on the goal...being cancer free and living a long life. All my doctors have given me a really good prognosis and I really believe that I will be fine. Keep a positive attitude, take it day by day. There are a lot of great people on this site and we will all be there for you! You will know more after your biopsy and MRI. Once you get the results, you will feel more in control of your situation. Believe me , it does get a little easier each day. You have come to the right place to get support, care, sometimes people figuratively holding your hand, and sometimes humor. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. I think the " poorly differeniated " part of your diagnosis refers to the fact that there is a lot of unknown about the cancer cells. If you go to www. breastcancer.org or any of the other cancer websites it will tell you more about that. When I was diagnosed, in order to keep my wits (what I had of them) about me and to keep anxieties from getting the best of me, I read all I could find about my diagnosis, ask lots of questions here and received answers. The first step is to take a deep breath and know that you will be getting lots and lots of support.
