" I was wondering what type of reaction

have you had, if any, to Taxol. Have

you also had Cytoxan and Adriamycin? "

Yes, I started with Adriamycin/Cytoxan.

They were somewhere at the beginning

at the beginning of what I like to call

" The vocabulary list from hell " . Being

a fairly well-rounded individual, I

tried to experience as many side effects

as possible. I had trouble with mouth

ulcers (Sonic orange slushes proved to

be good at keeping them to the minimum)

and thrush (which is REALLY icky). Got

some Clotrimazole that eventually fixed

it - I ended up taking them throughout -

but continued to drink the slushes

anyway(because yum!) A crashed white

count, solved by Neupogen (the first

time) and then Neulasta- I REALLY hate

those commercials (makes you just wanna

reach out and slap someone : )

Let's see, what else did I do?...I had

nausea which was controlled really well

by Phenergan (sp?). The only time I had

a problem with nausea is when I tried

Zofran instead (Phenergan knocks me out).

I ended up throwing up all night long

(I mean from my TOES - oy!), then went

to the ER and requested I be put into a

Phenergan coma : ) None of which was

worth staying awake for (ha). After

that, I stuck with Phenergan and slept

through most of the nausea. As Kermit

says; " It's not easy being green " : )

I did give myself a GI Jane (Hey, I had

to be proactive about SOMETHING), then

had my husband shave my head...I didn't

know my hair would " hurt " (in retrospect

I think " duh " makes sense with cells

dying and all). I would add that as

soon as I shaved it, it stopped hurting.

In case you are poised to run screaming,

I would like to point out that my mom

(65) pretty much breezed through HER chemo.

A fact which I found grossly unfair : )

Although if I had to wish trouble on

one of us, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

As for the Taxol, I initially had trouble

walking (the legs just wouldn't " go " ), but

after starting on Lyrica ( I call them my

anti-Quasimodo pills : ) it's much better.

They still hurt quite a bit, but I hate

taking medicine so I am just dealing (and

after the whole radioactive dye thing this

is small potatoes : ) Besides, if I ever

wondered what it was like to be a 200

year old turtle which rheumatoid

arthritis...that mystery is solved!

I would agree wholeheartedly with the

water issue, and suggest if you have any

trouble drinking lots AFTER...I drank 1

or 2 bottles BEFORE my A/C and Taxol (to

hurry the process through my system : )

Hope this helped...

I would just like to add something about the water drinking and treatment and

ask that all of you who are undergoing treatment at this time to please check

with your Chemo nurses or oncologist. I was told not to start the water

drinking until the day after treatment, so as to not flush the system right away

and to let the chemo do its job. Again, there are many practices and difference

of opinions, but since it's a health concern, please look into it for your own

benefit!

Peace and Prayers,

Michele

I was not given any restrictions on water,

but I absolutely think you should check

before doing anything other than what you

were already doing (if that makes sense).

I was told no antioxidants or vitamins in

general as they interfere with chemo.

ALWAYS ask first...to be safe and sure : )

Long time, No write(ditto)

I haven't gotten to the taxol yet... thanks for the info...my doc

told me to help my system build back up, to use the 3 off 3 on rule...

I stop all antioxidants 3 days b4 and wait 3 days to start back...I

had the thrush(looks horrid)mouth sores(baking soda and salt stops

them really quickly...My poor nails are half way blue(i guess the

taxol will finish the off...bottom lashes gone, really don't

experience nausea...da*n! I thought i was gonna lose weight!!! No

way, . I 've read the posts, but just haven't written much...But

you told my story

Thanks Jen,

Sandy from los Angeles
