Guest guest
Hi, I need help for my 18 year old daughter. At age 14 she was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis. Despite using levoxyl and having normal lab values, she still suffers with oversleeping and fatigue. She also takes an antidepressant and is not currently depressesd-says her symptoms feel physical and not emotional. I can't send her to college like this. Guest guest
Laurie, Read www.stopthethyroidmadness.com site. It sounds like she really needs Armour thyroid and adrenal support. I’m doing natural supplements for adrenal support and I’m doing pretty good. But there are other options. Depending on where you live vitamin D deficienency is a big one and also anemia. Stop the thyroid madness site has a lot of info and a lot of blood tests you should have ran. Once you do you can post them here for our opinions. Has she been diagnoised with mono at all. That can take a toll on the body. And when she comes off the anti-depressants she needs to wean very slowly down. hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ http://mouster71.blogspot.com/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com From: The_Thyroid_Support_Group [mailto:The_Thyroid_Support_Group ] On Behalf Of laurie parker Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2007 12:40 PM To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group Subject: hashimoto's and fatigue Hi, I need help for my 18 year old daughter. Laurie > If your daughter has symptoms of hypo and normal lab ranges then it means she is not at the normal for her.. Being her age , female hormones etc. she needs to have the FT4 and Ft3 tested..namely the T4 considering she is on a T4 hormone replacement and because of the typical female hormone issues with an 18 year old she needs to make sure it is tested in the Free form. Some labs with ranges, symptoms and history would allow us to get a better picture of how your daughter is doing. Any changes to meds or new meds? B/C, SSRI's etc.. can effect the thyroid levels.. The main thing though is to make sure she is getting the most out of her replacement hormone.. That means 1 hour before she eats anything..and 4 hours apart from and iron, calcium etc. Set an alarm if needed so she can take her meds and go back to bed for an hour. Avoid soy and artifical sweetners.. 200mcg of Selinium daily will also help with hormone conversion issues. The symptoms you list can also be from low iron and/or low B12 as these anemic conditions are common with Hashimoto's. So I would get the doctor to order the blood work for these at the same timeyou get the FT4 tested. JMO..but a B complex would give more energy and is generally safe to take as the body excretes any extra B vitamins..but I would not do the iron replacement with out blood work to confirm it first. Guest guest
Micki, thank you so much for the web site info. I think that gives me all the info i need for research and help. It's so frustrating going from Dr. to Dr. I'll let you know if we get positive changes after trying some of the suggestions. Yes, she was diagnosed with mono in 10/06 when I took her in for a work up because of her ongoing fatigue. Lauriemicki wrote: Laurie, Read www.stopthethyroidmadness.com site. Guest guest
Laurie, I know what you mean about going from dtr to dtr. I’m still doing it. I have a new appt set up with a new dtr in a couple weeks. We’ll see. Reason I asked about mono is the labs screwed up and ran an Epstein barr virus on me and my results were way up there. Range is >120 and mine is 2095. My Naturopath said that is probably part of why I’m fatigued. I never had mono that I know of. So I probably had it at some point and just didn’t get tested. So now the EBV virus has flared up or something. I’m not sure I understand the whole thing, but I’m always fatigued. Anyways maybe get EBV tested and see if it’s flared up on your daughter. hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ http://mouster71.blogspot.com/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com From: The_Thyroid_Support_Group [mailto:The_Thyroid_Support_Group ] On Behalf Of laurie parker Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2007 2:43 PM To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group Subject: RE: hashimoto's and fatigue Micki, thank you so much for the web site info. Guest guest
If she takes one of the SSRIs antidepressant like Zoloft, Celexa, Paxil, and the like, those can inhibit the thyroid hormones, IF there is a problem already there. So this could add to something that already exists. Did you not already say that she was diagnosed with something else in the fall of last yr, as in EBV? This seems to be a major cause of failing thyroid amongst us people. hashimoto's and fatigue Hi, I need help for my 18 year old daughter. At age 14 she was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis. Guest guest
Kats3boys, Hi I have a question for you. Recently you advised laurie to have her daughter avoid artificial sweeteners. Why is that? As a diabetic I don't have a lot of choice but, to go for the healthiest sweetener. Thanks, RobinSee what's free at AOL.com.
Guest guest
Robin, Just jumping in here. Have you heard of agave necter? Diabetics can use it and it’s more natural then any of those artificial sweetners. It’s like a honey consistency, but tastes just like sugar without the sugar spikes. Read the bottles because there are some with less sugar. We get ours at the health food store. My hubby who just loves his pepsi’s really likes this sweetner. hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ www.stopthethyroidmadness.com From: The_Thyroid_Support_Group [mailto:The_Thyroid_Support_Group ] On Behalf Of Robbibird3@... I understand as a diabetic the need for them. But even then you are better off limiting the amount of artifical sweetners that you use. Sugar is the enemy when you have high blood sugar. But the body has an ability to naturally process the sugar..with artifical sugars your body does not have the ability to process them. You are better off sticking to the lower glycemic index foods and allowing the odd sugar treat then just replacing the old sugar high foods with chemical sweetners. I believe if you look in files you should fine a few links to artifical sweetners and ratings etc. I do understand the diabetic issue, btu a lot of non diabetics drink a few diet cokes a day thinking they are healthy.
