Guest guest
I have been lurking on her for about a month and half. So, I thought I would introduce myself. I am 45yo and live in Normal,IL. I have 4 kids(23,20,22,9) and a great husband. I was diagnosed with IBC stage2 on December 14. I was pretty shocked as there is no cancer history in my family(both sides). I had a lumpectomy on 12/14 and that came back positive for cancer. They did a sentinnel node biopdy and axilliary dissection. They took out a total of 15 nodes and 9 were cancerous. That sucked. The reason they did the lumpectomy vs a needle biospy is beacause I am on comuadin. I had to go off of it for 5 days prior and do shot of Lovenox 2x a day. So I had the lumpectomy on 12/13 to check for cancer then the sentinnel node biopsy on 12/15. After about 1.5weks by breast was swollen and painful. The surgeon gave me an antibiotic to take. Two days after the getting done with the antiboitic, I broke out in hives and was itching terribly. I went to my primary doctor, she prescribed me predisone, zyrtec and singular. That helped tremendously. My breast wasn't feeling too bad but still was swollen. I had an appt with my onc. He is great, the best in the area and thought very highly of. Told me that I would be on A/C for 3 treatments and taxotre(I think or the other t one) for 3 treatments. Radiation for 6 weeks 3 days and then Tamoxifen for 5 years. I was ER+. The 3rd of January I meet with the radiologist. He had a concern with the pathology report. The first part said the tumor had margins the second part said the cancer was to the inked margins. So, they sent my file to the tumor board and thought I would be better to reexcise it. So, got that scheduled for 1/12. On 1/11, I had drainage from my breast at the excision. It was gross but it kept coming out. Went and saw the surgeon, who said to let it keep draining since I was having surgery the next day.Otherwise I would have to wait til next week and with being off my coumadin, we decided to go ahead and do it. 1/12 had my surgery. They had gotten everything the first time. That was a relief. On Tuesday the 30th, I went to the ER. My breast was swollen once again. I had a temp of 103. They did an iv and iv antibiotic. Went to the surgeon on Thursday. It still hurt and still had a fever. So, he drained it. He got 160cc out of my breast. So, I hope this helps. I am frustrated by it all. Why can't the darn thing heal up and be normal. I'm at a point where they could just cut the darn thing off and it wouldn't bother me. I start a new job on Monday the 5th and my first chemo is the 15th. I am pretty apprehensive of what I am going to go through with chemo considering what I have gone through with a lumpectomy and stuff. I have picked out 2 wigs and many hats. I am not looking forward to losing my hair. Well, if you have made this far, thanks for reading. Ginny

Guest guest
Ginny, So glad you delurked!!! Nice to meet you!! You sure are going through a tough time and it's perfectly normal to feel frustrated. I think we all do, some more at times, some less at times. You sound like you have followed all the right paths and are in good hands. That alone is a plus! As far as the losing the hair goes, eh, its only hair and it will grow back! It is the most tramatic part I must say, being women, we are vain and lets face it, we love our hair and makeup!! BUT as far as other hair, boy I tell ya, its nice not to shave!! and its so nice to shower and be out in minutes like a man!! Your breast will heal, I'm sure of it.. and your job will go well. You will fly thru the chemo like a trooper because you already sound like a fighter!! Keep up the good work and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers daily. Keep in touch. peace and prayers, Michele Ginny Wood luv2stmp2@...> wrote: I have been lurking on her for about a month and half. So, I thought I would introduce myself. Guest guest
Ginny: You have such tenacity! I don't know how you did it. You are such a brave person. I am glad you finally posted so you can receive some of the best support in the world. You've come to the right place to get support, advice and comfort and caring. I chose a mastectomy after being diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma even my tumor at the time was only .8 cm. I just wanted all of the cancer out. I had a lot of drainage, too. But now it is healed. I am also glad that they got all of the cancer. Sometimes it just takes a while for things to heal. Are you on cumedon for a heart condition? May be this has some effect on your healing. Surely your doctor could tell you. Anyway, I am glad you are here and hope to be part of the support team for you here. My prayers are with you in a big way. Jan K Ginny Wood luv2stmp2@...> wrote: I have been lurking on her for about a month and half. So, I thought I would introduce myself. Guest guest
Ginny, We are practically neighbors! I live in Urbana. I had my biopsy on 12/14/2006, my pathology was well differentiated infiltrating ductal carcinoma. 7mm lump with very clear margins. SNB took 2 nodes, both negative. Thank goodness no infections to complicate things. On Jan 11 I had a bilateral breast reduction (which I was planning on having before the abnormal mammogram) and the plastic surgeon at SIU Springfield took more tissue from the area of the original tumor. I will start radiation on Feb 13. My onc wants me to be on Femara, so have had my baseline echocardiogram, and will have a bone density in a few weeks. Everyone's story is a little different, we can certainly support each other through life's trip. Maggie Szafranski
