Guest guest
(re-reading this, I fear my tone is ambiguous. " What could be more natural? " is said with great sadness and sorrow, because at times it seems the most difficult thing... especially to affirm those whose statement is to not affirm my child - or disaffirm my child.....) **sigh** more on Vanilla Deaf disability, deafness, language .... for me it all comes down to the human condition. The right to be fully human, whole and fully expressed. The right to inherent dignity and respect. The right to be met where we are - or at least if unmet, then not criticized, reduced, translated or marginalized. To embrace the principles which are at the heart of inclusion - not the legalities which bind agencies to compliance. To quote Baggs: " It (her video) is a strong statement on the existence and value of many different kinds of thinking and interaction in a world where how close you can appear to a specific one of them determines whether you are seen as a real person or an adult or an intelligent person. " ...... " Only when the many shapes of personhood are recognized will justice and human rights be possible. " I affirm my child's wholeness as I affirm my own and the wholeness of each individual now and always. We are each expressions of the same source, what could be more natural?
