Guest guest
Has anyone seen this food pyramid? Does anyone use it? And has anyone with type 2 diabetes actually lowered their blood glucose levels using this food plan? I can't believe how archaic this plan is...potatoes have recently been shown to increase your risk of getting type 2 diabetes! Go to http://www.diabetes.org/nutrition-and- recipes/nutrition/foodpyramid.jsp Unbelievable!

I can't believe how archaic this plan is...potatoes have recently been shown to increase your risk of getting type 2 diabetes! I was given this food plan when I was diagnosed. It is true I did not stick to it completely, I came up with my own food plan which is sensible eating. I still eat things from the ADA food plan. I lost 48 lbs and have kept it off. I have been off meds since 2001. I get good A1c results. I eat potatoes at least twice a week. I can go to Red Lobster for lunch, have broiled flounder, a salad, baked potato and a biscuit. Two hours later, bg's are between 90-110. We have had members that used this plan and it worked for them. There is no food plan that is going to work for everyone. If there was, diabetes would be much easier to control and understand. hugs Eunice

It's based upon this food pyramid. My last A1C was 5.3. Mike

Guest guest
Sounds very similar, the doc says I need carbs at every meal. There is only one diet that works 'eat less and less often' and that combined with a goodly amount of exercise (which I can't do) will result in being as fit as a a butchers dog if you want to have a shiny coat and a cold wet nose. < > And oh by the way Mike, an HbA1c of 5.3 sounds great but bearing in mind that's an average over 13 weeks means that at some time during that period you went perilously low in order to achieve the final figure. But whatever you're able to live with. -- Take care. Barry UK

Guest guest
I am going to respond to this in a moment. I'll scan & upload a portion of he info we were given at my diabetes education class. Guest guest
> > Most veggies are carbs. What happened to fats?? *SOME* veggies have adequate amounts of carbs to significantly increase you blood sugar (potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets)... ....*SOME* veggies are really grains (rice, corn, wheat) .....*SOME* veggies are really fruit (tomatos) AND... *SOME* veggies are low enough in carbs and high enough in fiber (or water content) that they don't have a significant impact on your blood sugar (broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage, asperagus, green beans)... Fats are generally avoided, and if you eat foods that contain fats, or cook with them, you probably consume all the fats you need... (i.e., avocodos and olives... fish... or foods cooked in olive oil)... Mike
