Guest guest
Hi All, I'm Terrya. I'm a 25 year old, recently married female from Dallas, Texas. Last week, my OBGYN found that I had an enlarged right thyroid lobe and ordered a TSH and thyroid ultrasound. The TSH came back at 0.16 (range 0.4-5.5) and the ultrasound found a " large dominant mass replacing most of the mid right lobe of thyroid versus multiple smaller masses forming a conglomerate mass. This is solid. There is blood flow to this mass. On transverse image, the mass is estimated at over 2 cm and longitudinally, the mass is estimated at over 3 cm. Given its solitary dominant nature, neoplasia is not excluded. " I'm just trying to make sense of all this. I actually have a science degree and work for a cancer research company, so I have a biopsy scheduled with one of our surgeons for Tuesday, but just wondered if anybody has had these same things and what their's turned out to be. Please help as I am worried sick.

Being your TSH is supressed make sure they also test your actual thyroid hormones. T4 and T3. This will tell you how your body is actually doing with regards to thyroid levels. With a supressed TSH you have a chance of being hyper..of having a hyper functioning nodule otherwise also known as a hot nodule. All the percentage of hot nodules being cancerous is not 0..it is very rare and almost unheard of..cold nodules are of a lot more concern, but cold nodules are also non functioning meaning you would most likely be hypo. I do not have any nodules, but I did have a biopsy on my thyroid. If you are scared of needles it can be a little nerve racking but I had no problems with mine. The Endo did it in his office. If you go to www.thyroidmanager.org and look at the chapter list..they have a list on FNA and how it is done, what to expect and the different slides with results etc. I know it helped me out as all the ENDO said was it was normal and my GP gave me the report but did not understand what all the words meant other then the pathology report at the bottom that said normal, nothing suspicious. Update us after the biopsy..and hugs..waiting is the worst.. Kats3boys
