Update ...going for more testing...

I went to the dr this morning. She is sending me to get an ultrasound

and mammogram. They don't mess around with this stuff. She hadn't even

checked me and told me she was going to send me. So, after she checked

me she said it didn't feel cancerous. Ok, how the heck do you KNOW if

it's cancerous by touching it??? Anyone know? If she's right great, but

I would still get the testing done.

A lot of times drs can tell/guess. It depends if its hard and can't be moved

around then the chance are high for bc. My family dr was right when he checked

mine. He was so sure he set up an appt for a mammo and also one with the

surgeon.

I know but after reading a few facts about distingishing the between

the two different kinds, mine could be cancerous. It's hard and

doesn't move. this sucks.

I think that good surgeons/docs develop an experitse - I know that when

I went in to have my lump checked, the surgeon knew what he was looking

at was cancer - he didn't say anything, but I could tell by the look on

his face. all he said was " well i'm not seeing what I hoped to be

seeing " and " this looks suspicious " ...

he knew exactly what he was looking at in the sonogram; I also think he

knew exactly what he was feeling - he and I know each other well -

outside of doctoring - and his face dropped; and he got suddenly very

serious and quiet...

If it is cancerous please remember that breast cancer is NOT the death sentence

it was once thought to be. I am a 16yr survivor and there are ladies farther

along than I am. Hang in there. You will be in my prayers.

Mine was hard and did move and was cancerous, so the fact it doesn't

move isn't difinitive. Good that you are having it checked though.

when i originally found my lump and had the dr check it - i as well as the dr

thought it was just a " caffeine " lump because i had those in the past - they

sent me for a mammo and ultrasound just to be on the safe side - i never once

thought it was cancer until the radiologist said i had better contact my

gynecologist and get a referral for a surgeon . now i am waiting for my sister

to pick me up because i have felt another lump and they are sending me for a

mammogram - hoping that this time everything is ok and i am just over reacting

to changes in my breast - a little over 1 year out from chemo and radiation. i

am trying not to freak out - been busy cleaning the house all day waiting . this

really sucks. just wanted to answer your post and i ended up jabbering - anyways

, good luck w/ your mammo and ultrasound - and even w/ that my surgeon said you

can't tell 100 % until they biopsy it. sheri

Thanks Sheri, I can see why you would be worried. Hopefully it is

nothing and you don't need any more treatments. Please keep us

Hi all,

First, blessings, prayers and positive thoughts to all the

courageous ladies here. As for how they can tell before the tests (old

timer story). My doc said, " well, it doesn't have the starlike quality

of a cancerous lump, but with your history, let's get it out and see " .

On Tuesday he told me this, Wednesday was the biopsy. I got the results

on Thursday and wanted the mastectomy that day if possible. But instead

right then and there he made my appointment for the other two docs. I

saw the radiology specialist on Thursday afternoon and the oncologist on

Friday morning. Then when I went back to him on Friday afternoon, he

scheduled the mast for Monday morning. I went home on Thursday (back

then they wanted you in at least 5 days, yeah, right). Well, that was

22 years ago, and at 60 years of age, I have at least 30 more years to

go *smile*. I'm saying all this so those of you who are new can take a

deep breath and know that there is life after bc!

Okay, got to go make dinner as we have a teachers meeting tonight.

Hubby teaches at the college.
