It references all the available scientific date on milk thistle. However, it has not been updated in 6 years. You might look for more current references (as opposed to web sites selling it). http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/milktsum.htm Ron
Guest guest
That's an interesting site, Ron. Thanks for posting this link! le, I had been diagnosed with what doctors guessed as a fatty liver more than a decade ago, and because my endocrinologist and primary care physician wouldn't allow me to take Actos or Metformin (Glucophage) while having these elevated liver enzymes, I decided to heal my own liver. I went to a health supplements store and also looked up information about liver healing on the Internet. That's when I discovered milk thistle with dandelion root! I purchased capsules from a reputable supplements company at my local health food store and took two capsules three times a day for several months. Then, I decreased the dose to two capsules twice a day. Finally, after about nine months to a year or so, a diagnostic blood test showed that my liver enzymes were back to a normal level and I no longer had any problems with my liver! From time to time now, I'll go back on these capsules for a month or two just to keep my liver healthy. My research showed that, eventually, cirrhosis of the liver could occur if left untreated, so I always want to be proactive. My doctors and diabetes educator were surprised and overjoyed when I healed my liver (since they thought it was impossible). Yet, they told me that they would never recommend this kind of treatment to their other patients. This is one of many reasons why I feel so frustrated with the medical profession! I hope this information is helpful! All the Best, Re: Milk thistle > > Could someone tell me more about milk thistle. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for sharing your personal experience. I have been thinking that I have been taking medications for many years and about the effect it could have on my liver. My endo sends me for lab tests regularly and there is no problem with my liver. I was wondering if some members of the group have tried the milk thistle and improved their blood sugar numbers. We all know that at one point the liver of Type2 diabetics start dumping blood sugar even when not needed! That is when we get the dawn phenomenon. My personal experience is that I developed high blood pressure about 3 months before I gave birth to my fifth child. It was not that high but my doctor at the time told me to take a diuretic. I was on it for 12 years and that's when it was discovered that I had diabetes. I have heard that diurectics make you glucose impaired. I appreciate all your comments. le
