Guest guest
Darlene - Yes, I indeed do have thyroid issues that have resulted after my B/C diagnosis. The endocronologist doesn't seem to have a reason " why " but I was at first hypo-thyroid and they put me on medication for that. I will see her again in two weeks and they'll test again to see if they got it under control. Many people have to take thyroid meds for both hyper and hypo - for the rest of their lives. I have heard of hypo going to hyper and visa-versa - until they get the medications under control. I don't know of any alternative's to taking the meds but let me know if you find something out about it - and I'll do the same for you. Hugs! Guest guest
Ellen, thanks for that.......... Did you ever have thyroid issue's before B/C? And how long after B/C did you start having thyriod issue's? curious.........i'm going to " dig " and see if I can find anything out.........I just HATE the thought of taking a radioactive medication with all it's side effects on top of everything else I've been through..........just doesn't seem right............and just how much radiation CAN the body handle???????? This would NOT be just a one time pill they want me to take.......it would be on a regular basis...............this is what concerns me......UGH!!!!!!! Just another thing to research I guess..........thanks again..........and if you find any info keep me in mind and pass it on........thanks Darlene Ellen emc_mom4@...> wrote: Darlene - Yes, I indeed do have thyroid issues that have resulted after my B/C diagnosis. Guest guest
Darlene - They discovered that I was hypo (mildly) during blood tests done at the beginning of my diagnosis (I was also extremely Iron deficient and they were trying to figure that out too) About a month after my radiation ended (Oct 06) I had my blood tested again and they found my TSH wayyy to high and increased my medication - I do see a endochronologist and will see her in two weeks because on one of my CT scans, there was a " goiter " which was the enlarged thyroid. I wouldn't be too happy about taking radiation pills either! Some days, don't you feel like " does this ever end...?? " Hang in there! Guest guest
From what I've experieneced from having thyroid disease for over 20 years, you won't be taking the radioactive medicine on a regular basis. They may give you something radioactive when they do a thyroid scan, or they may give you something radioactive to kill your thyroid, but the half-life of these medicines is short, and you won't be exposed to lots of radiation. If your thyroid is destroyed, you will need to take synthroid or another thyroid hormone replacement for the rest of your life, but it won't be radioactive. > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > Wondering....... > > > > I recently had blood work done and showed my thyroid is (after > testing) > > hyperthyroid.....Ultrasound showed that one side is not working at > all > > and the other side is " working " like crazy......Had thyroid scan > and > > all. Guest guest
Hi , they did give me some radioactive stuff IV when I had the scan.........and a radioactive pill the day before.......funny.....when they had me take it orally..it stuck on my tongue..I went to touch it with my fingers and the lady yelled " " DON'T TOUCH THAT PILL....JUST SWALLOW IT " ......imagine what I was thinking at that point....... " Don't touch it? Yet you want me to swallow it? " Go figure........the stories we have to tell huh? Thanks for your nice e-mail.....it is a comfort to me...... Peace, Darlene laurava23233 jeff.laura@...> wrote: From what I've experieneced from having thyroid disease for over 20 years, you won't be taking the radioactive medicine on a regular basis.
