Guest guest
hey everyone!! ii'm new to this site so i'd like to say hello and introduce myself. i am 34 and in the process of trying to get pregnant again after having a miscarriage in '05 and haven't had much success. not sure what is going on, whether it's my husband and possible low sperm volume or if it's me. all of my tests have come back normal though. all the docs say that my thyroid levels are fine but my PCPis willing to put me on armour to see if it will help my sxs and possible fertility issues. so, i am confused as to whether i should start thyroid hormone. my TSH has been anywhere from 2.41 to 3.31 since 2004; once it was 4.30 but that was 2 wks after my miscarriage in 2005; my last 2 results were 3.31 and 2.41 (2-07 and 3-07 respectively). my FT3 has ranged from 280-330 with a range of 230-420 and FT4 has ranged from 1.1-1.5 with a range of 0.8-1.8. my ferritin continues to be low at 25. do you all think armour is a good choice given my FT3 and FT4 numbers? will my FT3 and FT4 go to high? or will the FT3 go too high since Armour has the T3 in there? do you think another thyroid hormone may be better to try? i'm just nervous to start this because every other doctor has said that my numbers are fine and because of the panic attacks and anxiety i experienced after starting thyroid meds 2 wks after my miscarriage. And i have not figured out whether the depression and panic were due to the levoxyl i tried after the miscarriage or post-miscarriage hormones?? thanks--palma Need Mail bonding?Go to the Yahoo! Guest guest
Hey Topper-- i have been tested for antibodies but it's been about a yr or so and it was negative at the time. i have to admit that my diet is pretty bad but i've been working on making it better. i really don't eat soy but i love sweets so i'm sure the corn syrup pops up quite a bit. and i'm sure there's fluoride in the water i drink. as far as the panic and anxiety, it was really bad for quite a while. i shudder when i think about it. i had a miscarriage and then 2 wks later, started thyroid meds because my TSH was at 4.30. i was only on the med for 9 days because it made me feel worse and then a week or two after that is when i had my first panic attack and it was downhill since then. i alternated between feeling extremely depressed and anxious, almost paranoid and would have strange attacks where i couldn't catch my breath. it slowly got better and it's been a few months since i've experienced that. i do have days when i feel depressed and sometimes i feel on edge and my breathing does feel strained but nothing like before. and i wonder if my body was reacting to the miscarriage or if my thyroid was off. i've had my cortisol tested--blood, urine and saliva. my morning level was very high after the miscarriage but it all tapered back down eventually. the saliva hormone results were completely different than my blood hormone levels. it was really confusing!! so i'm just going by my blood levels. and my heart rate is steady, low; but sometimes, i can feel it speed up and my heart beats fast. my blood pressure is usually always low. as far as sleep goes, sometimes it's great and sometimes it's bad. like everything else, it fluctuates. i've woken up a couple times in the middle of the night in a panic and felt like i needed to flee, i didn't know what to do. i go through periods of not being able to fall asleep, but mostly i wake up alot throughout the night. i definitely don't sleep 8 hours straight. my temp is usually fine. it's been low here and there--it's mostly in the upper 97 range which i think is fine. right now, i'm taking a fertility blend vitamin/herbal supplement that has iron and folic acid and chasteberry. i also take extra B12 since my level is low and extra folic acid since i've been told that is what really increases ferritin. sometimes before i sleep, i take a mag/cal powder. i'm gonna try to take fish oil caps too. i appreciate all your input!! palma 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Guest guest
From the numbers that you have given the TSH is running higher than the average for a person with normal gland function (that's 1.25). With the current lab range for TSH (.3 to 3.0) you've actually shown above that, and anything over 2.0 is cause to find out what is going on.... The frees are running a bit low.... Have they tested you for thyroid antibodies? What usually happens after starting on replacment hormone is that the body will adjust to it, changing TSH to lower actual gland production, so if your gland is healthy you won't hurt anything (provided it's a small dose and the doc doesn't start with a grain or more all at once). If your gland is borderline (for whatever reason) it will also drop it's production, that's why doses are started out rather small and gradually increased as blood levels are checked..... If your Ferritin is low that can also have an impact on how efficiently your body is able to utilize thyroid hormone. How is your diet? Goitrogens can have a significant negative effect on an already overworked thyroid gland (be it due to am imbalance of other hormones, autoimmune issues, injury, or genetic issues). The biggest culprits (as in 'common to many of us' and often ingested as 'hidden' ingredients in foods and water) against the thyroid are soy, HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) and fluoride... You mention anxiety and panic attacks.. these can often be a result of stressed adrenal glands. That can be a result of too much stress in your everyday life that has left them over worked which will then add stress to the thyroid gland OR the thyroid levels being low can cause increased stress to the adrenals... in both cases the anxiety and panic attacks are symptoms of the adrenals becoming fatigued. How is your sleep? Are you able to fall asleep easily and sleep through the night? Or do you have trouble going to sleep or wake during the night and have trouble going back to sleep? These are also signs of adrenals having a tough time.... Adding thyroid hormone when adrenals are already having a tough time can often increase the panic and anxiety problems too.... How is your heart rate, or more precisely, resting pulse rate? How is your body temp? Does it seem be lower than 'normal'? The body is an amazing thing and as sad as having a miscarriage can be keep in mind that if the body knows it isn't going to be able to safely carry a baby it will miscarry before it does itself harm. Knowing that your body isn't ready yet will allow you time to find out what is wrong, and right it, to allow you to have a strong and healthy baby, and be strong and healthy yourself -- to be able to be a good mom.... so be positive and find out what you need to get taken care of.... Oh.. what are you taking for vitamins and supplements?
