Guest guest
Hi all. I am new here. I was diagnosed Hypo in Oct 06. I do not understand a whole lot about it. All I know is that the doctor put me on Levoxyl 25 mg. I've continued to gain from 133 to 151 since Sept. I am only 5'2' so my "ideal weight"' is 125-130 for 42 yrs old. I keep begging the doctor to put me on something else that will stop the weight gain but they insist that my levels are back to normal and don't want to switch. I feel that something is NOT normal if I am still gaining and I eat like a bird! I also have fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, & arthritis. I have a pain specialist looking to install a SCS (spinal cord stimulator). Any advice will be welcome. Guest guest
25 mcg of T4 (Levoxyl) isnt' going to do much for you other than drop your TSH and slow the gland function that you do have.. the result is that even though you are taking it the net available hormone in your system could actually be less than if you weren't taking anything. Hypothyroid is the state of low thyroid function, the diagnosis would be what is causing you to be hypo. No, it's not you.. it's the dumb docs that don't get that part.... It's equivalent to saying you have a sneeze without saying that the sneeze is from allergies, a cold, the flu or that you just filled the pepper shaker... you need to know why your thyroid function is low.... You wouldn't happen to have copies of your labs, would you? If you could post them we would be able to see what the doc is testing.. I'd venture to say he's only testing your TSH level (TSH is a pituitary hormone) and not bothering to test your available thyroid hormone (Free T4 and Free T3). When were your last labs? You were diagnosed and started on Levoxyl in October? You should have been back at least two or three times for follow up labs.... Fibro is actually the result of long term hypo... if caught early enough it can be GREATLY relieved.... by giving the correct amount of replacment thyroid hormone, and 25 mcg ain't it.... I don't know how much reading you've done so far, or how familiar you are with the hormones and tests and such.... we've got a web page up that runs through the basics, you're more than welcome to swing by and read through, it makes what we talk about here a bit easier to understand... www.thyrophoenix.com/thyroid_101.htm Topper () On Sat, 10 Mar 2007 18:26:05 -0600 (Central Standard Time) "DJRivet-Yahoogroups" writes: Hi all. Guest guest
Hey Jodie, Was that mg or did you mean mcg. If it was mg then I have never known anyone on that high of a dose if it mcg then that dose may be too low for you. It takes awhile before you find the right dose of medicine, vitamins and supplements that will work best for you. Then ther aer also dietary triggers to your thyroid. Guest guest
Hi, I have LS and there is nothing to see either. In fact, I don’t have any itching - all I have is pain (but with no inflammation) I went to two very well known vulvar specialists just to make sure that the diagnosis is correct. Both of them said that it was a mild case of LS. The only way I can get any relief is to use the steroid cream and Estrace, plus Lidocaine gel. Would you mind telling me what the symptoms are for bacterial vaginosis? nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of dachshund58 Sent: Monday, April 28, 2008 9:30 AM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: I'm new Dear ladies, thanks so much for this sight. I've done some looking around and this is the best by far. I need help and just to vent. I've had my share of both vulvar and vaginal problems lately. Started out as severe vulvar pain-felt like the nerve endings were fried. With that came bacterial vaginosis, which is treated with antibiotics- Flagyl And metrogel, which in turn caused yeast infections. The last had to be caused by a strain of resistent yeast because it wouldn't respond to monistat or Diflucan. Boric acid did work well. My dr. told me I had Lichen Sclerosis as well, though the symtoms wasn't much as described, especially in appearance. To try and make a long story short this has been a nightmare. I was prescribed a strong steroid cream and Estrace as well as tablets. What with the creams the pain has gone. That's why I'm wondering if it's possible to have a mild case of LS, one that caused pain and itching but doesn't change the appearance. I still have minor irritation and itching. It itches down the inside of my thighs and way up front where the hair is but there's nothing to see. Oh, Ladies, I just want to feel normal againand it seems so close but not quite. I'm thankful to having improved so much but at this point any of it is too much. I was told low hormones was the culprit. I'm 50. Guest guest
Hi there, I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. There are a lot of us who can relate to just wanting to feel normal!!!I was under the impression that there is a specific biopsy test you can get that will correctly diagnose you for LS. nne, is that how you were diagnosed? If so, it would be great for you to actually find out if you have LS or not! You also mention the itching, with no change in appearance. I wonder if it could be nerve related - nerve itching can be really irritating, and doesn't necessarily change the look of the skin.anyway, hope you feel better, nicoleTo: VulvarDisorders From: millburytimes@...Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2008 12:24:38 -0400Subject: RE: I'm new Hi, I have LS and there is nothing to see either. Guest guest
No, I did not have the biopsy – I had my choice of whether I wanted it or not, and because the area was so inflamed, even the doctor thought it would be better if I did not have it. She said she saw a slight evidence of LS, but nothing drastic like fusing – which is something you don’t want. The biopsy’s are quite painful and take awhile to heal and really burn when you urinate. But if you really want to know, then a biopsy is a must. I just took their word for it and after two doctors saw evidence of it, then I believe that I have it. I think most of my pain is nerve related. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of Zenner Sent: Monday, April 28, 2008 8:49 PM To: vulvardisorders Subject: RE: I'm new Hi there, I am so sorry to hear you are going through this.
