Guest guest
Hi, I am new but am looking for some assistance. Although i work in the medical field, I can tell you this disease is highly misunderstood. I went to my doctor a week ago .. a female no less... who quickly and smuggly said to me, 'michelle, are we sure this isnt stress'.. I looked at her as if she was kidding and said, 'does stress cause this lump on my throat, make it hard to swallow, cause my eyes to feel as if they are going to bug and give me headaches and heart palpitations? the same symptoms I was in there a month before for? If God allows me, and I do get to the level of nurse practioner, I would love to make this widely misunderstood disease better understood. The torture that people go thru and the assumptions that medical and non-medical people make is astouding!! I wrote an undergrad thesis, " Women, Mental Illness, and Misdiagnosis " . This was after my intial diagnosis and hell I forged thru after my first child was born. I was able to convince her to allow me to supplement with Aurmour while staying on the synthroid. Being in school in a medical field does not allow for any screw ups. This issue has already cost me two test grades when I was an A/B student at a rather prestigeous college and working! Imagine how many of us could be throw aways if they only go by the test results! I am getting over a virulant virus. All this has occurred in the last couple of weeks while changing jobs to 'simplify' my life. That is another blog that falls under escaping a non profit bullying agency. I can only hope to forge ahead and insist that no one deals a 'psych' diagnosis to anyone again w/out checking their body out .. LAB TESTS LIE and if you have lumps, a goiter, or other endocrine symptoms, do let the medical know it alls get you down! Hugs. michele
Guest guest
Don't you just hate that! My skin is crawly just reading it. When my daughter was 3 she had a Mexican amoeba parasite in her intestines. When I first took her to the doctor, I listed a few symptoms including the fact that she was very snappish with me, a trait that was not common for her. My doctor then said "Haven't you heard of the terrible two's?" I told him that I wanted a stool sample done as she was also grinding her teeth in the night (another symptom), which he did to humour me, and the next thing I knew, she was quarantined for 3 weeks! Guest guest
Hi Michele, Welcome to the group. We all know that feeling very well. With my doctor he listens but, since, He is the one with the degree he knows what's best for treatment. I just discovered a slight swelling in my neck which he verified. First thing I said is that I want to catch this before my thyroid has to be removed or have RAI. He said he thinks its just an infection or that my medicine needs adjusted and mentioned hashi's thyroiditis. So I get bloodwork done he gets a vacation and I have to wait until the 20th before finding out the results of the test he ordered. So now I am working on being patient and not worrying too much about the swelling in my neck Robin -- In The_Thyroid_Support_Group , " michelle_haines2003 " wrote: > > Hi, > > I am new but am looking for some assistance.
