Guest guest
Well, I was really hopeing the oncotype would be my salvation from chemo, but no dice. Results are a score of 32.. Chemo is a definate now. Dr wants to do the atc sequintial protocall. adriamycin every other week for 8 weeks, then taxol every other week for 8 weeks, then cytoxan every other week for 8 weeks. has anyone else done chemo this way? He gave me a script for crainal prothesis without batting an eye, just said he could tell i had been doing my homework. You my sisters have been wonderful teachers! I have learned so much from you all in the last couple of weeks. Thank you for knowing what to ask. I am having trouble holding it together tonight, so thanks for being here! I don't know what I would do without you. kathie

I don't know what I would do without you. > > kathie > hey kathie--i had A/C together, once ever 3 weeks - 4 infusions in all; then taxotere/herceptin, once a week for 12 weeks (i only did 10 weeks) - now i'm just doing herceptin once ever 3 weeks, till next summer. it's do-able. and it sucks. this all sucks. i know what you mean about " holding it together " ...but you'll plod through all this; you'll get through all this--wshen i started, it seemed like there was no end - but the " chemo " part has ended for me now, and I'm feeling like *me* once again...but this is all so scary. and a trauma, really... the night i was diagnosed, i went out and got drunk i HATE that i had breast cancer - but the operative word here is " had " ...i was stage 1, er/pr/her2+ you'll be ok - line up friends/family - if you can - to help, when you need help. peace marisa

Guest guest
I'm so sorry to hear about your onoctype results, Kathie. But at least you know now that you NEED the chemo, it isn't just the oncologist guessing that chemo will help. > > Well, I was really hopeing the oncotype would be my salvation from > chemo, but no dice. Guest guest
Kathie, I am sorry to hear that your score wasn't lower than you would of liked. However, the bright side is, by this test, they know what they are dealing with. I know it stinks to have to hear what you have ahead of you, but it really isn't that bad. YOU can DO it. The fear beforehand is harder than the actual act itself. I myself have tremendous anxiety and I did fine. I actually wanted to go alone! LOL.. But I couldn't get rid of the posse!! Everything will fall into place and for the right reasons you need the treatment. I wish you the best and look foward to hearing about your journey and helping in any way I can!! Guest guest
KATHIE: I too was hoping and praying for your score to be low..(BIG SIGH)..okay NOW.. SO at least we know at this time how aggressive they need to be with the chemo.. and they can get it now before it metastasis.. I know this is hard at this time to feel blessed and fortunate... BUT we live in a time where science is finally catching up with this disease..AND you are now connected to a very large sisterhood of fellow survivors.. 12 years ago when both my sisters (both) had BC they did not have this test..the doctors didn't even offer my older sister Tomoxafin as a follow up treatment??Because it was not a standard protocol at that time she was told and they were constantly on the wait for a doctor to tell them it had returned...BOTH OF MY SISTERS ARE ALIVE AND WELL TODAY ... my older sister beats all odds because she still carries on partying and riding her Harley son.. go figure.. Me I do everything the doctor says.. quit smoking.. quit drinking.. quit EATING FAT FOODS quit ,quit, quit.. Now doctors have another tool to help us catch this early.. and all science points to early detection and early treatment means longer survival .. and even CURE.. I will continue to hold you in my prayers.. email me if you want to talk.. Thank goodness for the Internet and this web site.. without it I would not have known about this test (my doctor did not say anything I had to ask) and I would not have known about reconstruction options ... and I would not have found all of my BC sisters,.. Love and Prayer, Cheryl ps... when my " little sis " lost all of her hair.. her 4 boys and husband shaved off all of their hair in solidarity for her... her hair is now back and long and ... funny though.. she keeps it blonde now..LOL. ( I won't tell you yet of the story of how she let her 4 boys dye her hair one night when it was growing back.. and it came out orange and yellow) I will save that one.. Guest guest
Kathie - Sorry about the results - but now you have a plan - a really crappy plan, but it can be done! i had my A/C together, every two weeks and I didn't get Taxol (I don't know why but I'm going to ask my oncol) and no Herceptin because I'm a neg. for that. I wonder why they are not recommending the A/C together - that would at least cut your treatment time down by 8 weeks, right?? Maybe you should ask, I would. Hang in there girlfriend, we're all in this together! Hugs, Ellen > > Well, I was really hopeing the oncotype would be my salvation from > chemo, but no dice. Results are a score of 32.. Guest guest
Thanks for the support! This is a new protocol, yes it is longer, but they say it is easier on the body as you are only getting 1 drug at a time. They can give a slightly higher dose of each drug which is more effective, without causeing toxicity. They " say " you can continue your regular life because you don't get knocked down by so much at once. This is really important for me as I am the primary caregiver for my 86 yr old mother who has parkinson's. I also work full time. God I hope what they " say " is true! so it looks like the chemo will be over right before my daughter's wedding. hopefully they will let me wait until Nov for the radiation. This is hard enough without worrying about being up to going to my own daughter's wedding kathie > > > > Well, I was really hopeing the oncotype would be my salvation from > > chemo, but no dice. Guest guest
Kathie - That's interesting - the new protocol info. I mean. It makes sense in one way but it also increases the amount of time you have to undergo treatment, which stinks! Is your radiation after all the chemo treatments?? I can identify with your situation as I care for an 89 year old woman (as my job) and I was able to continue doing that throughout my treatment (minus a couple of really bad days). It sounds like you have a lot on your plate here - job, caretaker, daughter's wedding!!! My gosh - a lot to consider. Are you relatively healthy otherwise?? I mean, I'm 49, 4 teenagers at home still, work part time. Taking the A/C together was doable and many of the girls here have had the same treatment. Maybe the strength of the chemo they want to give is too much on the system, but 24 treatments every other week, that's a whole year! Yikes! I know they " say " you can continue your life (as you said)...... but you also have choices here too - right?? YOU are the one doing the treatment so be sure that you've weighed all of your options. I hope you don't think that I'm challenging you or your oncol's protocol - I'm certainly not - but a whole year of treatments just seems so daunting. But then again, even since my diagnosis (10 months ago) treatments and protocols have changed and improved. (Thank Heaven) You sound like a very strong woman and I'm sure you'll do what's right for your situation - as we all do. I will continue to offer my support as we all will - this is a great group of women - and I'm glad you're a part of it. Hugs!
