Hi all,

I had mast at 4 p.m., got to my room at 7 p.m., and was discharged at 7

a.m., not quite a drive thru, but darned close! I hadn't even had a

meal yet, so I stayed for breakfast. I was still REALLY drugged when I

left. Didn't like it one bit.

I have a very frugal insurance plan (Kaiser). I've heard of some masts

done on an outpatient basis here in Ohio.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Kathleen,

That is just inhumane and disgusting to have a hospital and staff shuffle you

out that quickly without even knowing how things turned out. Animals stay at

the animal hospital longer than people do these days! Please take care of

yourself, your healing process is very important!

hi kathleen,

when i had my mastectomy, i was told i was allowed a 23 hour stay. i did

end up having a lot of pain the day after so the doctors had me stay one more

day. it's pretty frightening when you can't remember most of the stay in the

hospital or even arriving home. maybe that's a good thing? i'm not sure. -

>Hi Kathleen: I agree it sure feels like a drive through. I had a six hour

bilateral

reconstruction and went home the next AM. I didn't mind because I felt ok and

didn't really

need nursing help, but it still seemed kind of risky in terms of possible

complications. But

my husband is now scheduled for a radical prostatectomy next month (for prostate

Ca)

and apparently they plan to send him home the next day also!! Its all about the

money.

Keep the faith, Anne V.

That's outrageous! I went in for mine on a Friday morning - 6am; and was not

discharged until late Sunday morning. Insuance companies are so squeaky tight

it is unbelieveable! I have United Healthcare EPO through my work; what was

really interesting was that my coverage is great, but the one thng that WASN " T

covered by my plan was my wig - lol. Even though it is considered a prothesis,

it was not listed as a covered item. So I figured since I would be paying for

it myself I might as well get a good one.

Sorry that you had to go home so early after your procedure; these companies

need to be more compassionate and caring

I had my mastectomy at 1 pm and was supposed to go home this next day, IF I FELT

GOOD. However, I had a reaction to the anthestic and my blood pressure spiked

and a reaction to morphine. So they kept me another day. The surgeon made sure

that everything was working before I went home. Insurance is driving the time

of hospital stays and has been for several years. The doctor and the hospitals

have to go with the insurance guidelines.
