Only because I have contacts with the statistical genetics and

cancer research people at UCSF - plus 2 family members diagnosed in

the last 10 years. However, I am *woefully* uneducated about the

practicalities since I live 2000 miles away from my family. I just

saw my first drains at my Tues am visit to the surgeon. They gave me

a pair of camisoles - and the fiberfill falsies are a hoot! My cats

will have fun with them! BUt the camisoles don't have any support

for the drains, so I'm probably going to buy those ones I saw from

the link someone here posted - the ones with pockets for the drains.

And can I vent a private peeve? I am *so* sick of pink!

I HOWEVER, what people don't realize, is just because we have

masectomies and ovaries removed, still does not mean we can't get

breast cancer and ovarian cancer.. There is still that chance, from

what I've been told anyways. I also consider myself proof

> that since I had the mastectomy, my cancer returned on the same

side.. but, what can you do? nothing, plug along and just keep on

keeping on!! (I so love that saying Jan) Why did it come back,

because the darn cells are so microscopic, nobody, not even the best

surgeon in the world, knows for sure if they get everything. We

just have to have faith, follow treatment and wait.

My favorite saying - no guarantees... But we can do what we can to

better our odds.

Speaking of odds, I just read the Molly Ivins, the liberal Texas

opinion columnist, died of BC yesterday. No matter what you think

about her politics, the fact is that she was given a 5% chance to

survive (probably 5 years) when she was diagnosed 7 years ago, and

she made it to 7 years. I view that as a positive - she lived years

longer than she was expected to. I figure if it turns out I'm early

and without lymph node involvement, I can aim for 70 more years, and

die at 125 - of old age!
