Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to share our experiences on medical issues concerning 's tonsils and palate. We took to the Cleff Palate Clinic in Lancaster, PA between the ages of about 9 through 15 or 16. was born with sub mucus palete with a high arch or grove. When he was little he had allot of trouble with food getting up into roof of his mouth and would use his fingers to get food out of the grove. He also had problem with not enough space for his teeth to properly come in and had teeth crowded into the roof side of his mouth. His speech teacher would often ride along with us for appointments. At one time she questioned if removing his tonsils would help his ability of speech any. 's tonsils were very inlarged but he was not getting sick or sore throats. They talked about something that would something like a flange (I think I remembering this correctly) may help take the nasality from his voice. But they would have to remove his tonsils in order to place or create this flange thing. I had two doctors argueing about the impact of taking 's tonsils out. One felt that taking his tonsils out would work against the idea of the flange. In other words they could take his tonsils out and the flange may not do what it was suppose to because of it. We decided against the surgery. They couldn't seem to come to agreement on the outcome. There's more to this but I have an errand so will add the rest of information later today. mom to (31)

Guest guest
and Ellen- I've been incredibly busy lately and only skimming the list so I missed this the first time. Ellen's comment alerted me to read. Anyway - yes, it is Aubrie who has been suggested for a possible pharyngeal flap surgery. In her case, I don't think tonsils were in the way for the surgery. But I do remember them saying the flap would interfere with ever having access to them later. I may be confused - but there was definitely something about it. So we have also opted not to do that surgery. Sounds like quite a nasty one with limited outcome reliability. Given all that goes into Aubrie's speech difficulties, how would we know that improving this one aspect would make enough of an impact?
