Guest guest
Hello all I've read a lot here and have a question for you. I have iron deficiency anemia and Hashimoto's hypothyroid. Finished 8 weeks of IV iron and felt like I was climbing the walls. Has anyone else had IV iron and when iron levels increased to normal had there thyroid go wild? I became hyper for a while and am now trying to rebalance while my iron is beginning to go down again so I'm trying to keep it up and my thyroid is on a yo yo. Any helpful hints? Guest guest
Sharon: You don't say whether you are on thryoid replacement meds for you hypothryoidism. I don't know whether you are saying your THYROID gland went wild or if you felt hyper symptoms from your thyroid replacment hormone. You see? That would make a difference. I can tell you that there is a connection between anemia and hypo. The bone marrow gets so cold that the red cells stop producing and you can get low ferritin or low iron counts. If you get the iron counts back to normal....one can only assume that if you were no longer anemic...you might feel a thryoid hormone overload more easily, since the symptoms of hypo and anemia can overlap. There are articles on thyroid and low iron...on the net. It takes a little looking around, but you will see that the issue gets quite a bit of notice for folks in groups too. Good luck! ~E:) --- Sharon sharonweaver@...> wrote: > Hello all I've read a lot here and have a question > for you. Guest guest
Sharon, It is imperative you read www.IRONOVERLOAD.org At the moment I can't remember if they address thyroid issues on that site, but they are real good about returning emails when you have questions. Guest guest
Sharon, I am iron deficient, too, and my medical team and I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly why. Believe me, we tried. Sooo...a few months ago, I went through a series of iron infusions, too. By the fourth one, I was feeling significantly better in terms of keenness and fatigue. Now my levels are falling back down again, and I'm feeling the effects of that, too. I get my ferritin measured this week and meet with my docs next week, so I'll know a bit more about how often I have to have the infusions. But, in my case, I can say that they helped.
