Guest guest
Hi Michele, I am triple negative and can't take any of the pills the other girls are taking. That leaves me with Chemo and Radiation. I wish there were a pill I could take for 5 years, I would feel so much better if there were but no such luck. Could you tell me what treatment you are on? I am on taxtorel and cytoxin. I've only had one treatment so far because of complications with my first one. I am going for my second one on Feb 2nd. Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Guest guest
Dee, I was unable to take Tamoxifen and its been over 16yrs for me with just having chemo. Not being able to take the drugs does not necessarily mean the cancer will return. You will be in my prayers. Guest guest
Hi Dee, Nice to meet you, I just joined this group last week and absolutely love it!! I am amazed at the support everyone has to offer as well as people are from all over! Ahh.. the good ole triple negative.. yanno, it has it's pro's and con's... just like everything else. I too would feel better taking something for 5 years, but I'm not sure even that is a guarantee. I did do my genetic testing before my treatments started and I am positive as a BRCA gene carrier. Which, they were going to treat me as anyways. My mom had passed away at 39 of ovarian cancer, and supposedly breast and ovarian are the same family. I am married, 39 with 3 children, ages 8 10 and 12. Of course, that magic number 39 scares the crap out of me, so I'll looking foward to getting past it! I was diagnosed with b/c in May of 05. I had a masectomy as I had two tumors in my left breast. I had tram flap reconstruction and a complete hysterectomy. I was considered Stage 1, clear margins, 1 out of 6 nodes was microscopically positive. The doctors weren't worried as my treatment of chemo which was to be Adriamycin and Cytoxen (4) and then taxol (4). So I plugged along. However, exactly 13 months later, I had a reoccurence on the masectomy side because my cancer resisted the chemo. Guess I just have aggressive cancer. So .. luckily I didn't use all my " front men " at once, and I had surgery again and proceeded with radiaton. I am now almost 5 months out from ending radiation. Again, I just plug along... I believe that every day they are closer to a cure.. as long as we fight, I believe we will win in the long run..I have hope (and fear at times) but truly believe that our destiny is in God's hands. I've heard and seen that attitude is everything and I try to be as positive as I can!!! So, although are situations are different.. we are all alike in the one fact that we all have/had breast cancer and are here for each other. Please write back and let me know more about you and your situation. I would love to keep in touch. Anything you would like to know more specifically about treatment I will try to answer. It is difficult, but DOABLE... I believe we should cry when we want to as we are human. No one truly understands until they have walked in our shoes. You sound like you are at the beginning of your journey, but the hard part will be over before you know it.
