Guest guest
Hi everyone, This time, I'm writing about the weight I've gained from becoming Hypo and taking Cortef for my adrenals. I'm taking T3 now along with the Armour and FINALLY I'm starting to have some energy and lose a little weight. However, I have this "roll" on my upper trunk - right under my breasts that won't go away! I believe it's from the Cortef (since it's a steroid). Any ideas on how to exercise that away? Stomach crunches don't target that area, do they? Thanks so much for any advice!! M. Get your own web address. Have a HUGE year through Yahoo! Small Business. Guest guest
Hi , I have developed that same exact “roll” in the past 4 months and I am not on steroids. I take levoxy and cytomel – I find it odd cuz I always had a thin waist no matter how much I gained – it went to butt, hips and thighs and left my middle alone sue Hi everyone, This time, I'm writing about the weight I've gained from becoming Hypo and taking Cortef for my adrenals. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Thanks for your reply. I always put on weight in the butt and thighs too but not the waist! My tummy was flat, but not anymore. It seemed to develop slowly over the past year as I became hypo and was on the Cortef....so slow that it seemed like it appeared in one day - I didn't even notice it at first. Now that I'm off the Cortef, it has become a little smaller but is still there and I don't know how to get rid of it! I mean, it's not even a muscle...how do I exercise it? When did you start your Levoxyl and Cytomel? Did you have the roll before you started these meds? I'm trying to figure out what might have caused it...maybe there are too many factors though... grrrrr.... Guest guest
Me too! I am mystified as to why I should have developed a 'roll' there. At first I wondered if it was something to do with posture; if I make an effort to stand tall (it is an effort since I'm only 5'2 " ) the roll is not so obvious. I also wondered about body chemistry. There is a theory about the location of fat deposit and the development of things like diabetes isn't there? Can anyone remember the details? --- JustYourTypeDTP justyourtypedtp@...> wrote: > Hi , I have developed that same exact ³roll² in > the past 4 months and I > am not on steroids. > I take levoxy and cytomel I find it odd cuz I > always had a thin waist no > matter how much I gained it went to butt, hips and > thighs and left my > middle alone > sue > > > On 3/2/07 2:43 PM, " J. Guest guest
If you're talking about the same one that I have too...... we talked about it here a LONG time ago.... I posed the question, and am still curious.... does this perchance have anything to do with the body trying to insulate the digestive tract in an attempt to elevate the temp and improve digestion?? Bacterial efficiency and density is very much affected by body temp... lower body temp fewer bacteria... we have all kinds of bacteria in our digestive tracts that help us to break down food and absorb it.... Now.. I'm wondering it as we become more active and our nutritional and energy requirements increase... is this specific area of increased fat layer there for a definite reason?? One of the things brought up was a belly warmer... if we wore a belly warmer would that negate the need for the fat layer there?? ...anyway.. that's one of the things I still wonder about.... Guest guest
hi, i read the other day, sorry cant remember the source, that abdominal roll in women usually occurs around menopause due to the hormonal change. mine started at that time and nothing seems to move it but then at my age i find that feeling well is so much better and no longer worry about the weight. dawn cdn > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > > > > > > > This time, I'm writing about the weight I've > > gained from becoming Hypo and > > > taking Cortef for my adrenals. Guest guest
I've developed this over the past 3 yrs or so and am now approximately postmenopausal, but what I'm thinking, rather than the Cortef putting it on you, it probably started awhile back when you were more severely hypo, and your own natural cortisol picked up the ball and ran so hard with it that IT rather put it around your waist. Then, when it could no longer do this, you became adrenally fatigued and had to take the Cortef to replace it. Our OWN cortisol (when we're in dire straights with our thyroids) tries to "protect" us from the "tiger", it "thinks", during those prolonged times of stress, either from outward sources or inward ones, and the amazing thing is that this protection works too well, to the detriment of our waist lines. It puts that fat there to protect the internal organs, our most vital parts for life, during a time that it "thinks" it's protecting us from something that's going to "get" us. Formerly, that WAS the tiger. Now it's all of life and, for US, a lame thyroid that has to share responsibility for metabolism with the adrenal glands, once it is shot. I believe that this is more where that fat comes from than the small normal amts of hydrocortisone you're getting from what is helping to rest your adrenal glands. I know one thing, it's not muscle, it's fat, so it's VERY hard to get rid of and takes a massive amt of time to do so. I am now no more than around 10 to 15 lbs above normal weight, and I, too, always had the little waist with the pear shape, but that shape is changing, and it's very hard to fight. The jeans have to be bigger in the butt now, because of the waist. I just hate that, too!! I used to have about 20 belts and never wore pants without shirt tucked in and a belt, but not now. I know I really need to work on that, but I'm afraid that what I will end up having when I DO lose enough weight to take that off, is bird legs and an emaciated face, lol. I hate that it's not like it was. And yes, it IS also the female hormones too. Re: Weight gain from Cortef Hi Sue, Thanks for your reply. Guest guest
You're talking about insulin resistance, and yes, it's still all tied in with a time when huge amts of cortisol were needed to compensate for something not right inside the body. Re: Weight gain from Cortef Me too! I am mystified as to why I should have developed a 'roll' there. Guest guest
It's the "running from the tiger" effect. We were "fearfully and wonderfully made", so much so that cortisol will do ANYthing it can to totally protect the internal organs. Where are the vital organs? In the middle of course. What a miracle. Guest guest
, me too with the flatness. I seriously had a “tiny” waist and it was flat, even 4 weeks after both my kids were born! I never had “hang over” stomach either and I have that, it really sux. I have been having weird pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen near my ribcage and was told it’s probably gallbladder so I am going to the doctor Thursday. Makes me nervous as all heck since I am doctor-phobic. but — my husband had the same trouble in Sept – he bloated up like a PIG, and after the surgery of his gallbladder removed, he is stomach-less again in that under the rib cage area. He used to rest his hands there! now it’s all gone...! His mom had the same thing last month and a friend of mine had her out last week — same thing - -bloated like pigs... I have no idea what my doctor office will bring but I am fearing the worst: surgery. I eat 13-1400 calories of good stuff daily — fruits, lean meat like turkey, a few eggs, tons of veggies, salad, and fish and I am gaining... I started on the levo/ctyto last year, changed to Armour several months ago to try it and then back to cyto/levo a couple months ago. was achy on the armour. I did NOT have this roll before I was diagnosed with Hypo and in fact and gained 25 pounds in the last 4 years since I got “treated.” my thing I did get tested were my cortisol levels and they were high. that DOES cause “belly fat.” I dunno what the treatment is for that though. sue

Guest guest
I'm sooo tired of that line... I still stand strong.. as a group I think we have a better understanding of nutrition than any other.. including the 'professional dieters'.. Most of us do not over eat, we don't dare... But 's description of internal organ protection fits very well too.. the Tiger shield... Our bodies do amazing things to keep us alive... arrgghhhhh Topper () On Fri, 02 Mar 2007 21:03:45 -0600 JustYourTypeDTP writes: interesting idea...a belly warmer...I will aks the doctor on Thursday.I bet she will just think, sure, ms. piggy you just eat too many cupcakes. thing is I don’t eat ANY sugar desserts :(sue
