I had mastectomy on right breast only and only spent the night

at the hospital. They did find cancer in some lymph nodes which

really has me worried. I see my surgeon on this coming Friday

so the drains can be taken out. She should have the pathology

report on the lymph nodes by then. I am so afraid it might

have spread some place else in my body. Anyone who has gone

though this please let me know your experience. Hugs

Hi Lynda and welcome to the group. Sit back and take a deep breath. Just because

there were some lymph nodes it does NOT mean you are going to die.

I was diagnosed in May 1990 with Stage II, I had one bad node out of 23. I

received 6 mo of chemo. (12 treatments), no radiation or reconstruction.

We have a sister group that is mostly Stage IV ladies which is the most serious

stage of breast cancer. There are ladies there that are on maintenance chemo for

the rest of their lives and living a fairly normal life.

Please post any questions you may have or vent etc. We are all here for you. I

will keep you in my prayers.

Hang in there Lynda and just take one day at a time. My first time w/bc was 16

years ago and they found that the cancer had spread to axillary gland. I did

chemo and radiation and survived. Had cancer again two years ago. did bilateral

mast. w/recon and am on tamoxifen now. Be strong for yourself. The waiting is

the hardest part of anything. This is a wonderful group you have found. All the

ladies are very knowledgeable. If they don't know something they will lead you

Lynda,

Just take it one day at a time. I had a bilateral December 4th and

only found out about a week ago that my oncologist wanted me to do

chemo. Once your incisions heal you can start thinking about that

part of it more: chemo vs tamoxifen, etc. And your doctors will

have a plan; it may not be the one you hoped for, which was the case

for me, but the point is LIFE, so we have do to what we need to do.

I still have pain from my mastectomy; but it's gotten much, much

better. Take heed what they say about heating pads, I burned a big

hole in myself when I fell asleep on mine (my plastic surgeon was NOT

happy). Hopefully you have some family members or friends who can

help take good care of you those first few hard days; rely on

them....it makes them feel better too by being able to help you.

Stay in bed, rest, nap, read, meditate and stay AHEAD of your pain by

taking the pain meds regularly whether you need them or not. It

really helps to keep that train at the top of the hill; it's a lot

harder to stop once it's headed down. Best of luck and you'll do

just fine. As for me, I feel like someone is sticking pins and

needles in my entire body today, quite queasy and headachy, but holy

smokes it could be soooo much worse!

Hi Lynda:

I agree, waiting stinks.

I only had a lumpectomy - so I can't comment on that pain, but I do

know that the stupid drain hurt more than anything else. I couldn't

wait to get that out. I also had positive nodes (4 out of 14) - I

still am unsure if it has gone anywhere else... but it scares the

sh*t out of me when I get to thinking about it.

Rest, rest and rest - it is really the best medicine.

Dear Lynda,

The main thing right now is for you to get your rest, NOT worry. As they

say, what will be, will be. You have to take this whole experience one step at

a time and not overwhelm yourself with fear. I had a double in 2004, of 23

nodes, 6 had cancer. You have to push yourself into that positive zone and

know you are doing everything you can to get your health and your life back.

Hey, it's 2 1/2 years for me; I went back to work full-time in April of this

year, already got promoted, and am living and loving life!

I went through at 45 the 2 mastectomies, 4 drains (felt like a plumber!),

accelerated chemo, 32 radiation treatments and I feel healthier now than

before. You will too, as long as you focus on getting Lynda well. This is a

wonderful group of some of the best (I said " some " LOL) on the web for support!

I

found this group after my surgery and without them, I'd be in a black hole

of fear.

We're all here honey to help you through and I hope this helps restore your

confidence on healing your body. Get in the " zone, " honey and put fear by

the curb. Come on, girls...do I hear a big " WELCOME LYNDA? "

Thank you all so much for the advise. I really am feeling a bit

better now, mentally and physically. I will let you all know

what my surgeon says on Friday. My drains are getting low now

and I hope that is a good thing. The pain isn't as bad either.

Welcome to the group! You will find lots of reassurance, humor, and all sorts

of other things here.

Glad that you came through the mastectomy okay. Waiting for the pathology

report is difficult. I hope that you have an oncologist lined up so that you

can get your treatment options and decide what you want to do.

I pray that your recovery goes well. Take lots of time for yourself for lots

of reasons.
