Guest guest
I would really like to get a walker for Alissa but there are sooo many different kinds out there. I don't know which would be the best one suited for her so I was wondering ... for all of you with chargers between the ages of 15 monthew to 2-3 years old who use walkers or have used walkers, would you mind sending me an email of pictures of your kids in the walker so I can get some ideas and show my pt person. Thanks....This is one of the reasons I love this group!!
Guest guest
I would go to have her assesed by physio therepy. they are the ones who can say wich one is best. it depends very much on how much upper and lower body strength she has and what supports she will need (seat, or just a belt or something with good back support. You really should have a PT help you decide. Chantelle > > I would really like to get a walker for Alissa but there are sooo many > different kinds out there. Guest guest
Ethan uses the Rifton gait trainer. We never used the " gait " part of the walker, but it was the one that our PT recommended. The walker can be used forwards and backwards, the wheels turn, and there are brakes on the wheels. He started using it when he was about 2 yrs old and now at almost 5 years old, he uses it occasionally. It did grow with him. I don't have a picture handy, but if you go to www.rifton.com you can view it. Jody Jody - mom to Ethan (ChARGE) and --------------------------------- Need Mail bonding? Go to the Yahoo! Guest guest
, You can see Max and his walker on his blog: www.mightymaxupdate.blogspot.com. He loves, loves, loves it. I would definitely talk with your PT about the walker idea, because some are not as " pro " walker. Max's PT is happy that he is enjoying it so much but she said truly the best way to encourage walking is cruising furniture...the walker helps with some endurance and strength but doesn't do a lot towards learning to walk. This is according to my PT, whom I love...but I still practice with Max a lot because he ENJOYS it so much! And she is happy with that! Good luck...and let me know if you have any questions. P.S. I have been checking your site daily and no updates...so I am glad to see your name on the listserv. I was getting worried!!! Guest guest
I agree, you should talk to her PT, We got Eva a pony gait trainer (as you saw) and its great for those who don't have to much balance. I can't wait to get Eva's new one because the one we got is to big for my short little girl...LOL! I also asked Evas PT about a regular walker and she is just worried Eva will not hold on to the sides with her hands all the time and she will be falling a lot. Guest guest
Crystal, Kennedy used a " pony " back in the day too and I believe that's what finally gave her the confidence to walk independently! Loved it. > > I agree, you should talk to her PT, We got Eva a pony gait trainer > (as you saw) and its great for those who don't have to much balance. > I can't wait to get Eva's new one because the one we got is to big > for my short little girl...LOL! > I also asked Evas PT about a regular walker and she is just worried > Eva will not hold on to the sides with her hands all the time and > she will be falling a lot. > Hugs, > Crystal and Eva > > > > I would really like to get a walker for Alissa but there > are sooo many > > different kinds out there. Guest guest
Sorry to be responding to this Email so late. had a reverse posterior walker (or at least I think that is what it was called). So basically it was a walker that she pulled behind her. It was great for her needs. I am not sure if I have a pic. I will check. walkers for chargers I would really like to get a walker for Alissa but there are sooo many different kinds out there.
