Guest guest
, Now there's a word I can use besides, " I feel like a slug. " Sloth...right now, it is a perfect description of my behavior. I am guilty of involuntary sloth. BTW, must commend you on the files; they are an invaluable source of info. Thank you... But, I'm thinking about doing that myself. Ask for diet pills or something. Have you heard all the media reports about obese woman having a bazillion more chance of getting BC. Then, how come the meds they are giving us to prevent it make us fat???? Doesn't make sense. hugs, Dari
Guest guest
I had originally thought that a good side effect of Chemo would be weight loss. Of course I was likely reading literature that was " old " but everything I had read said most people lost 50lbs in 6 months. I didn't lose weight, I ended up gaining weight. Has anyone ever asked their physician for diet pills? I have thought about asking my oncologist, but feel stupid asking for such a request when I was fighting something more serious. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Need Mail bonding? Guest guest
Anita, I didn't gain but lost, but I don't think your question is stupid at all. Chemo is a hard thing to go through, and there is no reason to NOT want to look and feel your best with what you are going through. If it makes you feel better go for it. when I lost weight, about 11 pounds, it was just as hard getting through that as it was with the Chemo and hair loss. My onc wrote out a prescription for a medication to help me get my appetite back which it did. So you should ask about any weight gain supplements. Guest guest
I too gained weight, could we begin a weigh loss campaign on this site. I would like to lose 20 pounds, then I would be in the " healthy " weight range. I " m having the hardest time motivating myself to exercise. I know it is said to be one of the best things to do for myself(and I used to exercise daily), but since mastectomy, chemo and looking ahead to rads, its the last thing I want to do. Please help me motivate myself:) NJ ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Finding fabulous fares is fun. Let Yahoo! Guest guest
, I will help you motivate if you will help me!! I agree a weight progam would be great motivation!! According to the the postings of how to figure out your ideal weight, I'm definitely not in a good place! LOL.. I'm looking at 60lbs, however, to lose all that I don't even think I was that thin in high school so I would be happy with 20-30! Whataya say?? We can think of something to do and report to each other as far as how much we accomplish a week? Guest guest
Sounds great. I could create a public calendar with google (and only those with access can see it) where we could start to record our weight, or if people are not comfortable with that they could record weight lose, or inches or whatever makes them comfortable. I'm thinking the calendar would be nice because you could see a difference each week. I'm willing to do whatever, so if someone has a better idea I'm in. If I lose this weight, it will be the first since hs as well. I can't imagine what I will look like 20 pounds less. I think losing weight is one of the hardest things to do, even if its 10 pounds. I will set the calendar up and send it to you . Thanks for the support. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Yahoo! Guest guest
Girls, Before my double surgery, I was about 118 lbs. After chemo and radiation, I was about 115-118 lbs. Although the steriods made me want to eat, the chemo offset that with the " horrible mouth " thing. I also read a wonderful book called " Waking the Warrior Goddess " by Horner. All the warnings about women who were overweight, more likely not only BC, but recurrence got my attention. After chemo, I had a heart scare. They thought I had had a silent heart attack so it was almost 5 months of diagnostics to get to the bottom of that...which turned out that my heart healed itself after A/C chemo...just took some time. It also made me much more aware of what I put in my mouth. Lots of veggies and fruits please! I started Tamoxifen in January 2005; again, could have eaten my heart out, but decided instead to think with my head instead of my cravings. My son is an organic vegan, and I've taken a lot of his advice and watch what I put in my beloved body. I don't starve myself, don't live on salad and sprouts, just eat sensible and watch sugar and high carbs. I substitute whole grains whenever possible. My chicken and any dairy is hormone free, and I avoid red meat (I never really liked it). I splurge on the occasional Starbuck's, with whipped creme, an occasional piece of cake, but for the most part, I try to listen to my body. We've completely substituted sweet potatoes for white, whole wheat for white, and try a lot of these new pastas with grains (the 100% whole wheat ones aren't for me).
