Taking meds before surgery???

I am having the right side of my thyroid removed next tuesday (3/6). I was just wondering if I should take my levothyroxine 100mcg before the surgery? I am going to talk to my doctor this week and ask him, but just wondering what you guys think? I know you're not supposed to drink after midnight, and I always take my pill first thing in the morning with a big glass of water!

I think I am just getting nervous as the date gets closer and am thinking of all sorts of things. Thanks for the info....

Jill, since you are on a T4 only med (Levothyroxine) I'd venture to say that it would be better to skip it that morning, along with the water... T4 is very slow in how it's processed in the body and won't affect you that day, and skipping a day won't hurt you in the days that follow either.. but to be safe... Ask your doc what he prefers... If for no other reason than to be sure that you both know if you took it that morning, or if you did not... and that you are to verify the intake of the water to take the pill... It's my understanding that with anesthesia it's not good to having anything in your stomach so the water could be a problem...

I would call the hospital and ask them what the procedure is with

regards to taking meds before surgery..
