Guest guest
Ok, yesterday I went for my annual physical/paptest/EKG/chest xray. I did this because I am behind, and I want to make sure I dont problems else where. Well anyway, I have been having a sore throat for about a week, little more. Reddness, red spots, scratchy/burning feeling. Nothing hurts when I swallow. I was given a swab test for Strep and that came back fine. The doctor told me its just a virus and that they do not treat a virus with antibiotics. She said, its probably because of having the Radiation and my ammunine(sp) system is low. Has anyone had this happened with them during or after Radiation treatments? Thanks char
Guest guest
Hi Char, I did have this happen to me, more at the beginning of radiation... My throat was constantly sore and scratchy.. you might want to check with the radiation techs or you may already know, if the beam of radiation is hitting your throat due to the mapping configuration that was made for you. Let me know of the outcome, I'd be interested to see if it is just viral or if in fact your upper chest area is so high that it's affecting your throat. Guest guest
Yes, i had radiation and my throat was itching and sore. I think that affects during radiation, I can't explain with either because most of the people I met , they felt the same way with the same case. Must just wait until your treatment is over. Stay away from people or you might get sick since our immune system is already down.. take care, Tonia > Ok, yesterday I went for my annual physical/paptest/EKG/chest xray. The week end before my last treatment I started out with sore throat. Really bad, and could barely drag myself to my treatments almost an hour away. My husband had to take me twice. My doctor over there suggested I go to the family doctor which is about 15 miles from me ( I live in the country) I figured there was nothing to be done, as it was just a cold etc. I coughed and coughed, had worse cold of my life and after 3 weeks still had it, plus so tired could not hardly drag myself around. Yesterday was my 2 week check at the radiation clinic an hour away. She once again thougth I should go to my family doctor so they called and set me up for appt and we drove from that town to the other town, took over an hour. She did give me a strong anti biotic, just gave me sample of 2 to see if it helped, and then wrote a prescription so I could take more. I only had one, and can tell I am feeling better already, and will get some more. My husband has caught the same thing, and has had this for a week. My point is to be aware, that maybe you can take something for this. I would hate to see anyone get as sick as I have been :-( I was so wanting to get done with my radiation feeling great, but instead because of what ever this is, got done sicker than a dog. However the radioligist does not think that the radiation had anything to do with it, but I do thing I was so tired etc just from the trip over there that contributed to me getting this. Guest guest
I am really glad that I am not the only one with the scratchy throat after the radiation. I thought that the problem was just me - Will have to ask the rad. onc. when I go back to see him/her next month. The whipped yogurt helped my throat. ne > > Ok, yesterday I went for my annual > physical/paptest/EKG/chest xray. Guest guest
Ilness that starts out " just a cold " , " just a virus " , not something that one can take an antibiotic for, often turns into a bacterial infection that one CAN take an antibiotic for, and this is where I think we on chemo/radiation need to be particularly mindful. While it may make sense for the average person to wait a few days and see if they get better on their own, I think we should be preemptive and start taking antibiotics very soon after we know we're getting sick. I had to put off starting my chemo a week because of this. As soon as I knew something was coming on, I should have headed for the doc and an antibiotic. Guest guest
I had whooping cough during radiation and every doctor I saw insisted that it was a virus. I finally, after 8 weeks of this terrible cough, went to the urgent care and got antibiotics. Cough was gone in 48 hours. I thought I might die for a while though. So if you don't get better, find a doctor who listens!!!! Take care,
