Guest guest
My onotypeDX score is 22, which is in the moderate range. That means that w/o chemo and hormone therapy, there is a 14% chance that my cancer will recur, usually in the liver, lungs, or bone. Since I have no breast tissue, my chance of getting another breast cancer should be 0, assuming all breast tissue was removed. The score is low enough so that my oncologist feels that if I end up in the chemo-taking group, he will just give me 2 drugs (taxotere and cytoxan) instead of three. He also said there is no need for me to live in fear that my cancer will recur. If it does come back, it may be in many years when there are more effective treatments for it. He is going to talk to his 12 partners to get their opinions on the best course or treatment for me. He also needs to talk to the people at MCV who are running the oncotypeDX study. I go back on Friday to find out what my treatment will be. Some more good news: my mom is BRACA2 negative! Her sister died of breast cancer at 37, her other sister died of ovarian cancer about 7 years ago,and my cousins are BRACA2+. This is great news for my four sisters. I hope they will never have go through this. Their risk of breast cancer (according to the geneticist) is the same as the general population. And my cancer is not thought to be genetic either. Guest guest
Anita Oncotype DX is a special assay done on the tumor. See www.oncotypedx.com http://www.oncotypedx.com/> for more info, or our previous posts under that subject. Some of us are having this done, I am hoping to get my score next week.
