Student background checks

In our area of Texas our hospital clinical affiliates require us to conduct

background/criminal history checks on our students as a prerequisite for doing

clinical practice in their facilities.

We are currently using an online provider for these checks. We do not do

the checks. We require the student to go to the site, pay for the check, and

provide it to us. It costs them $40+ to get the " certificate " that the

service provides.

I would like to know how the rest of you handle this. Do you do

background/criminal history checks?

If so, how do you accomplish them? Do you do them yourselves? If so,

what's your procedure? Do you require a fingerprint check?

If you use an outside source, would you be so kind as to identify it and say

what your opinion of its service is?

for both the certified background check & the certified drug screening.
