Guest guest
Excellent advice, Robin. A health diary is SO helpful, both for a patient and for a physician. Guest guest
Hi everyone! I am new to the group and so glad to find it! I have some questions that I would like answered if possible by people who have been through this...advice, etc. I thank you so much in advance. Ever since I had my son 2 years ago,I am tired and haven't lost any weight. I mean, I am tired! I need a nap every day! I didn't lose the pregancy weight and I've tried so hard to lose weight and cannot. I was fine before having him. I have recently started forgetting things too...and I have no sex drive. (sorry if that's TMI) I recently told my gyn and she tested me for Free T4 and TSH. My T4 was 1.39 My TSH was 3.645 Both were in the normal range apparently. I was reading on the Internet that docs now say the TSH range is cut off at 3 for the normal. I am taking my results to an endo and they are going to do a few more tests. Which ones should I ask for? T3? They said they only do that one if there's a reason but they said they would send me for others but didn't tell me what. Am I just crazy? I really don't think these symptoms are in my head. Guest guest
Symptoms are definitely not in your head. The most common test for thyroid is TSH which is all my doc usually tests for that I remember anyway. There are alot of disorders with similar symptoms so I would suggest to start a diary record your resting pulse, resting temp and what you feel day to day and share this with your doctor. It will help if your doctor listens to you. Hypothyroid starts out the way you describe but it could be something else. The more details you can think of to include in your diary the better. Guest guest
Have them check your Ferritin levels as well. I was exactly like you, after having my daughter two years ago. My adrenals were trashed, iron was incredibly low, and hypoT. *****julie****** Re: Please help me...please please please Symptoms are definitely not in your head. Guest guest
Thanks for your advice everyone...I really appreciate it! I actually had some blood work done last week and my complete blood count was normal. I didn't see anything listed there as Ferritin...excuse my lack of knowledge...is that iron? Is iron included in the complete blood count? Thanks again!
Guest guest
Ferritin can be included in labwork (you probably need to ask for it), and yes it does refer to iron stores. Mine for example was 28 and really needed to be between 70-90. Low iron can mimic all the symptoms of HypoT, and by bringing mine up to 88 I feel 100% better. By the way, my other iron panel looked great which in turn made me think I wasn't anemic. Guest guest
The good news is... it is not all in your head. Your symptoms are very real and definitely indicate that you are hypothyroid. You are also right that the recommended upper range for TSH is now 3.0 and you are above that level. You definitely need further testing, but please make sure to post the results along with the labs ranges so we can see what's going on. We love to see test results.jennyluvsjj wrote: Hi everyone!I am new to the group and so glad to find it! Guest guest
There is a long lsit of Hypo symptoms on the web page below. It is the third item on the left side. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/index.html Only 1 or 2, it is a toss up as to wheather you are hypo, but if you have many symptoms listed, it is a good bet that you are hypo. > > Hi everyone! > > I am new to the group and so glad to find it!
