OMIGAWD!!! Here's a prime example of chemobrain... I started reading this

calculating part like an educated individual and got confused at the second

step and started over again and again & then gave up like I really wasn't

interested in figuring it out.

I have an accounting & technical writing background and I don't think this

should have been hard at all, but it is!!! My brain just doesn't want to be

challenged or something. I don't know but it's quite frustrating.

Thanks for the 5'6 " example though, because I'm 5'7 " so at least I have a

ball park idea.

hugs,

Dari

I haven't used tamoxifen...my doctor has had me on Arimidex for just

over a year. I've gained a significant amount of weight, both my

hands are extremely swollen with severe pain in my fingers and wrists

and moderate pain in my feet AND lets not mention the hot flashes

(just let me live inside a meat freezer, PLEEZE!). I believe part of

the weight gain is caused due to my inability to move around enough

when I am feeling lousy most of the timee. I get very stiff and find

it hard be " normally " active...so I think it's a vicious cycle as far

as the weight gain. My hands are really bad. I can't fit any of my

rings on my fingers, even a wristwatch is uncomfortable since my

wrists are swollen, too. My arms are somewhat swollen, even tho' my

lymph nodes were clean. My doctor has me taking water pills for the

past few weeks to see if the swelling would go down...which it

hasn't :(

I will be switching to Aromasin next week. All aromatose drugs have

similar side effects, but I've been told sometimes one may not cause

as many side effects - it all depends on the individual. Well, I'm a

bit nervous to try it, since I already know what the Arimidex does to

me, but I don't know what the Aromasin will do.

I could expand on the side effects, but I think I've whined enough

for now!

My one last thought for the moment...I try not to complain too much

about being uncomfortable, I try to focus on being grateful that I am

cancer free (for now) and trying to enjoy each day as best as

possible.

Joanna,

Yes, my appetite seems to be stronger and I seem to be weaker in

fighting hunger pangs. But I still don't over-eat. As far as

cravings??? LOL I have always loved pasta. When I got down to 87 lbs

last year I started eating lots of pasta just to maintain/gain some

weight back. Now I am completely addicted to carbs!! Pasta and

breads, pasta and breads, pasta and breads!!! If I eat pasta I have a

slice of bread. If I eat a salad I have a LOAF of bread! J/K But

seriously, yes, now that you mention it, I do have cravings. Now that

I think about it....even when I go OUT for dinner now it usually

involves pasta. Before BC, when I went out it was seafood or steak.

Sheesh!! I'm my own monster!!!!!

Lucinda,

I am 5'4 " . I am very small boned, tiny hands, wrists that need a

child's watchband etc. So for me, this weight gain is HUGE!! I've

never had children and always shopped from magazines that cater

to " tweenagers " . I like the way I look now except that MOST of the

weight has seemed to settle in my belly and back, you know, I flap

over my jeans now, front and back!!! I never did that before!! And

I'm getting bat-wings on my arms!!! My arms were always skinny but

TONED! You could see muscle definition. NOT ANYMORE!!! I don't even

want to salt and pepper my food in front of people because I can feel

my arms flap!!!

Ready for take-off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kimmy

> Kimmy, just how tall are you!?! I know a weight gain at any height

can be scary, but according to a friend who is a dietician, to

calculate your ideal weight, take your height, think 100 # for 5',

and add 5# per inch for every inch over 5'. then you can factor in

10% either way to take in consideration your body type. For example,

I am 5'6 " , so my ideal wieght would be 130 lbs., but can be from 117

to 143.
