the idea that muscle burns more calories has recently been debunked. In

fact the more muscle you have, it is theorized, the less you burn while

resting because your body is so efficient.

I really do not want to get into this anymore, but is the whole

statement not contradictory? How would a more efficient body not burn

more fat while resting? More efficient then what? If you had a fat body

and it was more efficient at burning fat at rest then it would not be a

fat body? Unless it means if you have more muscle mass you have less

fat to burn so you would burn less fat then someone who had more fat

while resting? So according to this statement a fat body should not be

fat because it burns so much more fat while resting..

Woo Hoo..new diet plan..don't do nothing for a week that way the body

has a chance to rest and the fatter you are the more fat the body burns

while resting......I think I solved it?

LOL, ya, I don't think so. I'll take this one on and see what I can find out. It's not so much about efficiency, just the fact that muscle is active and fat is passive or something like that (don't quote me yet).

What I do know is that last year, when I first broke my diet, but I was in very good shape, I actually got way with eating a bunch of crap for about 3 weeks. I didn't gain an ounce and actually fooled myself into thinking that I had it licked. Then, about 3 weeks in, the fat hit the fan and I gained about 20 pounds in two months.

I think the other issue with any of these theories, is that the studies are conducted on 'normal' folk and the thyroid adds a lovely extra dimension.

So, I'll see what else I can find out. I'm sure I'll find tons more articles supporting the original theory, but I'll see what I can find about the new one... Judy
