Guest guest
So far, what I've heard here and from other folks says that 2 people say they didn't gain with the drug, and 3 say they did, one saying she added 60 pounds. Menopause often causes weight gain. I wonder if it's the menopause inducing effects of Tamoxifen that causes the weight gain, and if people have already gone through menopause, they gain less 'cause they already gained the " menopause fat " . Any thoughts? Ellie 8a. Re: Tamoxifen and Weight Gain? Posted by: " kimmy68_98 " kimmy68_98@... kimmy68_98 Date: Tue Jan 23, 2007 8:31 pm ((PST)) OMG!!!!!!!! Have you ever struck a nerve with me!!!! I have been trying to chat about this here for some time but no one seems to want to answer me. I weighed 102lbs at my most from age 16 to 36. Then I started dropping, I blamed it on muscle loss VS fat. From age 36 until I got BC I averaged 94lbs. After my mastectomy and starting Tamoxifen I went down to 87lbs. I was very sick with side effects. That was in jan. /feb. of 2006. A year ago. By July I was up to 104lbs. I could live with that since I was always thin. By sept. I was 110lbs. Okay...getting scared. Now, one year later, my weight gain is not so rapid but is still climbing. I am currently at 115lbs. Had to buy new jeans 2 to 3 sizes UP! And had to buy new tops since the belly shirts just didn't look right anymore!! Sheesh! I just ordered the Zone/Pilates thing they advertise on TV. I haven't tried it yet....I am really not one for excersize, but I feel I have no choice but to do it now!! I HATE Tamoxifen!! If I continue to gain weight in the next 6 months I will be done with it! I have always been very thin and never had to watch what I eat! I am not about to change my habits now! --------------------------------- Any questions? Get answers on any topic at Yahoo! Answers. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi Ellie!! How are you today?!?!? I did gain weight with the chemo, because they give you steroids before treatment to reduce side affects... However.. with menopause.. you gain weight too because of the lack of metabolism.. then throw in the fact that I had my abdomen cut, lolol, I'm a lost cause!!! But hey, at the moment, maybe cancer free, so who cares!! Love to Ya! Guest guest
I hope that I have already gained all of the weight that I am going to gain. I too have always been on the thin side but in the last year I have gained a lot of weight( about 20lbs.) and that was before I started the tamoxifen. Do you know if you gain the menopause weight in Peri-menopause? I too have looked at the zone pilates but I wil probably have to wait for my next paycheck before I can order it but I hope that it will help as I don't want to have to buy new clothes and since I work with the public, I have to look presentable( not how I look at home!) ne mizzes12 mizzes12@...> wrote: So far, what I've heard here and from other folks says that 2 people say they didn't gain with the drug, and 3 say they did, one saying she added 60 pounds. Guest guest
Perimenopause is when you put on the weight. It is an attempt by the body to balance your widly flucuating hormones. Fat tends to produce more estrogen in an attempt to make up for what your body isn't making.
