I guess the one day that I didn't read the waxahachie paper was yesterday. Im

appointments to governing board

Gov. Appoints Four Individuals To the Governing Board of the

Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick has announced the appointment of four

individuals to the Governing Board of the Texas School for the Blind

and Visually Impaired (TSBVI). The board is directed to organize and

conduct itself like the board of a local school district and thus, in

addition to overseeing the provision of all TSBVI services, has

specific responsibilities related to budget preparation, policy

adoption and appointment of the superintendent.

DeAnn Goodwin of Fort Worth is a caregiver for a special

needs child. She is a participant in project SPARKLE, a program of

individualized learning that equips parents of deafblind children. She

is also a member of Deaf Blind Multi-Handicapped Association and a

founding board member of the Texas Chargers, Inc., a non-profit

organization for families of children with CHARGE Syndrome in the

state of Texas. Goodwin studied accounting at Kankakee Community

College. Her term will expire January 31, 2013.

Caroline Kupstas Daley of Kingwood coordinates care and education for

special needs children. She was selected as one of the nine parent

leaders for Texas by Deafblind Leadership and she is a cofounder of

Parents of Visually Impaired Children, a support group for families

with visually impaired children. She also serves as a parent-teacher

in Project DOCC, a program designed to teach medical interns about the

lives of chronic care families. Daley received her bachelor's degree

in applied learning and development from the University of Texas at

Austin. Her term will expire Jan. 31, 2011.

Deborah Louder of San Angelo is an educational specialist at the

Educational Service Center, Region XV and is being reappointed to the

committee. She is a board member of the Texas Association for the

Blind and Visually Impaired, and is a former special education teacher

in the Weslaco and Independent School Districts. Louder received

a bachelor's degree in education from McMurry College, a master's

degree from Pan American University and studied on the post graduate

level at Texas Tech University. Her term will expire Jan. 31, 2011.

Dr. K. s of Tyler is a retired dean of Tyler Junior

College, where he continues teaching part time. He is also a part time

teacher at Texas College and a news and weather reporter for the Tyler

Morning Telegraph and KTBB radio. He is a current member of the

Assistive and Rehabilitative Services Council. He also serves on the

Public Transit Advisory Committee on the Texas Transportation

Commission and is on the board of directors of the East Texas

Lighthouse for the Blind. He is also a member of several historical

societies and an author of publications regarding Texas history and

politics. He previously served on governing boards of state agencies

under Governors White, Clements, s and Bush. s received a

bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University and graduate degrees

in history from F. Austin State University and the University

of Texas at Austin. His term will expire Jan. 31, 2011.

These appointments are subject to senate confirmation.
