Guest guest
Dear “non-rude doc lili”, I appreciate your heart-felt concern for me ---but ---- My doc upped the dose last year and I got MASSIVE diarrhea for three weeks. After a week’s worth of testing showing no other problems, I agreed to back off my levoxyl .12 mcg of the T4 and 5 mcg of the cytomel. I finally stopped pooping every hour...sorry, yucky but true. When I go too high with T4 meds, I get diarrhea... I guess I could do that again and surely lose weight. Believe me, it’s tempting! One thing I think we can all SAFELY ASSUME is that those of us most vocal on this board DO READ, DO RESEARCH, and DO EXPERMIMENT WITH OUR MEDS as well as RIDE OUR DOCTORS for the best treatment. I know I do! Sue Sue, I know you're not UNtreated, you're UNDERtreated, and that means you aren't going to lose weight. I know you think I'm rude, and I do lose my temper very easily when my hormones are off, but I'm not being rude when I say that it breaks my heart sometimes to read your posts and see just how hypo you are - it shows in most of what you write. What is the problem ? Is it your doc that won't up your dose ? Or is it that you have trouble with raising the dose ? Whatever it is, I do hope that you get to a comfortable dose soon and then you will find you can lose the weight and your cholesterol will go down - among other things. BTW I went hyper just recently, and my cholesterol was way, way under norm ! lol Lili
Guest guest
Ah Sue, what a life eh? I thought the same thing when I had an abundance of Armour laying around. I thought, why not just go hyper for a while and get a few pounds off. Unfortunately LOL, I felt like crap and it didn't work that way anyway. I totally understand that the thyroid and it's hormones have a profound effect on all of our system processes and that weight gain is a symptom of low thyroid function. However, in my years of experience, there is so much more to my hypometabolism than my thyroid hormone levels. I've lost and gained with a TSH of 62.0 and I've lost and gained with a TSH of .118. In fact, that's one of the reasons that I quit taking straight Armour. I had the diarrhea, racing heart, sweaty moments, fatigue, jittery disposition etc. etc. with my last increase. I would have been willing to sit all of that out for the sake of a few pounds, but as hyper as I was, I had stopped losing weight! As soon as I cut back and added in some Levo, the weight started to fall again. I've lost 18 pounds since I've been back on straight Levo even though I'm sure that my numbers will not be as high as they were, especially the T3. I could double my dose if I wanted to, but I no longer believe that it will have a profound affect on my weight. I know that it works for some, and I envy them for sure, but it has not worked that way for me and once again, I just want to throw both sides out there. When I'm undermedicated, I gain weight, but when I'm properly medicated, I do not automatically lose weight. I will never spontaneously lose a pound and I'm finally OK with that. I will never be thin without massive cardio and virtual starvation and at my age, I'm no longer willing to put my body through that much stress again. So, for today, I'm happy to stay just shy of obese and that makes my insurance company happy... Judy When I go too high with T4 meds, I get diarrhea... I guess I could do that again and surely lose weight. Believe me, it’s tempting! Any questions? Get answers on any topic at Yahoo! Answers. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Well that is interesting. So you had too much. I've had that diarrhea with the Armour. I love it. :-) But it sure makes me think then that goitrogens might be in part to blame or that you might have more control with Armour. Because of the need for so many minerals to make the conversion (not just iron, there are a TON, and it's so easy to be low in one, just drink coffee or tea!) maybe there is a problem - just from time to time - with the conversion of T4 to T3? Guest guest
I hear ya Judy and sounds like you are doing awesome. I do think that getting sugar OUT and cardio IN is doing the trick for you so I am right on your tail! I am easily inspired by success stories! Sue Ah Sue, what a life eh? Guest guest
I definitely have a T3 conversion prob cuz without the cytomel I was LOW end T3F... And now I am near the toppest top range. I like that. My next thing is to up the T34 to see if that shakes my metabolism. Sue Hi Sue, Well that is interesting. So you had too much. I've had that diarrhea with the Armour.
