Guest guest
I was wondering for those who don't mind saying - Who has taken Tamoxifen and felt it resulted in weight gain, or know someone who has who felt it did? Guest guest
Ellie, So far, Tamoxifin has not caused any weight gain for me - I've stayed the same since losing 30lbs with my treatments. My Mom took the drug for 5 years and didn't have any significant weight gain either. I have heard though, and I believe you'll hear from other ladies in this group, that it can cause weight gain. Hugs! Guest guest
Oh, I am so counting on the chemo diet. I have heard some gain, some loose. I do not want to gain weight at all. I have an extra 50lbs on me now and want to get rid of it. I didn't realize you could gain weight with Tamoxifin. Mentally, this is affecting me. I did buy a juicer recently and want to do a lot of juicing during chemo. I love carrot juice with other added fruits/vegs. My oncologist told me not to juice but I've talked to many who do and it has helped them gain strength and maintain/loose weight. Any thoughts on juicing? Is anyone else doing that? thanks, joanna http://mosshill.blogs.com/
Guest guest
OMG!!!!!!!! Have you ever struck a nerve with me!!!! I have been trying to chat about this here for some time but no one seems to want to answer me. I weighed 102lbs at my most from age 16 to 36. Then I started dropping, I blamed it on muscle loss VS fat. From age 36 until I got BC I averaged 94lbs. After my mastectomy and starting Tamoxifen I went down to 87lbs. I was very sick with side effects. That was in jan. /feb. of 2006. A year ago. By July I was up to 104lbs. I could live with that since I was always thin. By sept. I was 110lbs. Okay...getting scared. Now, one year later, my weight gain is not so rapid but is still climbing. I am currently at 115lbs. Had to buy new jeans 2 to 3 sizes UP! And had to buy new tops since the belly shirts just didn't look right anymore!! Sheesh! I just ordered the Zone/Pilates thing they advertise on TV. I haven't tried it yet....I am really not one for excersize, but I feel I have no choice but to do it now!! I HATE Tamoxifen!! If I continue to gain weight in the next 6 months I will be done with it! I have always been very thin and never had to watch what I eat! I am not about to change my habits now! > > I was wondering for those who don't mind saying - Who has taken Tamoxifen and felt it resulted in weight gain, or know someone who has who felt it did? > > Ellie > > > --------------------------------- > Get your own web address. > Have a HUGE year through Yahoo! Guest guest
Kimmy, Do you notice an increase in your appetite? Do you crave different kinds of food now? More sugar, etc? joanna http://mosshill.blogs.com/ Re: Tamoxifen and Weight Gain? OMG!!!!!!!! Have you ever struck a nerve with me!!!! Guest guest
Kimmy, just how tall are you!?! I know a weight gain at any height can be scary, but according to a friend who is a dietician, to calculate your ideal weight, take your height, think 100 # for 5', and add 5# per inch for every inch over 5'. then you can factor in 10% either way to take in consideration your body type. For example, I am 5'6 " , so my ideal wieght would be 130 lbs., but can be from 117 to 143. Lucinda Lucinda in VA --------------------------------- Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Guest guest
I also did put on a lot of weight, about 25 pounds. But I do not know if it was because if chemo plus inactivity, or tamoxifen, or the combination of everything. I am going back to the gym, and after my trip I will begin a diet, with a doctor, now that my immune system is a bit better. Let's see what happens... I have never been this heavy or out of shape!
