Guest guest
Okay, I had my first A/C chemo 10 days ago. Things went well, with just a few " yucky " days. I was told that my hair would definitely go. So far, it's still firmly attached to my head..a little itchy, but still all there. So my first question is...does it just thin out or does it come out in clumps? I'm a public school speech therapist and would hate to scare my poor students by reaching up to scratch my head and come up with a handful of hair!!! My husband wants me to go ahead and get a G.I. Jane (my apologies to any of you in the military...I just love the cute things you ladies can do with a bun), but it's cold and I don't want to freeze my head any faster than I have to! BTW, Mark & my son are both going bald with me...easy for my husband...he's already halfway there. ;-) Second question..since I do work with small children (with the accompanying " bugs " ), what are your suggestions for anti-bacterial wipes and disinfecting wipes? I'm going to have them wipe their hands when they come in my room, and plan on wiping down the table when each group leaves. Thanks in advance..have a nice Sunday, and may your football team win! Guest guest
Lucinda, I didn't have A/C but I do know most ladies loose all their hair. I had CMF and mine just thinned but if I had to do it all over again I would shave my head as my hair never came back like it was. I have real thin areas on my head. If you don't want to get a GI Jane cut how about wearing scarves till it all comes out? You can by some really cute ones to match your clothes. Guest guest
Hi Lucinda, Glad to hear your first treatment went OK. My hair started coming out just before my second treatment (2 weeks later). It at first appeared to be thinning, then clumps started coming out, so I shaved it out. It seemed to happen overnight, so be prepared! I hope you're getting Neulasta shots to keep your WBC up. That's tricky working with small kids. I think any bacterial wipe will do, plus Purell for you & them. -
Guest guest
The lady who has been cutting my hair for almost twenty years has a plan for me. On Wednesday, I should find out if I'm getting chemo. She said to call her when I find out, if I need chemo, she will give me a super short cut. The day it starts to fall out call her, and she will shave my head that day. She has been cutting my hair since she was an apprentice and has become a good friend. She has several clients who are going through breast cancer right now, and I feel lucky to have her. > > Lucinda, I didn't have A/C but I do know most ladies loose all their hair. Guest guest
lucinda - my hair started to really come out about two weeks after my first treatment of a/c (I went in every three weeks)...so I got a buzz cut. as far as kids and their germs are concerned - I bought purell; and jude (my son) and I used it regularly. Jude, though, kept climbing into bed with me...the night following my second treatment, jude woke up, wimpering - " ma, I'm so cold... " and he was burning up! 104 degree temperature! and I never got what he had, and was able to take care of him (being able to take care of him was my litmus test...) the neulasta I got really was the key, i think, to being able to fight whatever virus jude had... you'll be fine... honest MArisa > > Okay, I had my first A/C chemo 10 days ago. Guest guest
Hi Lucinda - I did a " pre-emptive strike " and had mine buzzed on day 13 after my first A/C. They can pretty much tell you that it's going to fall out after two weeks, so I took control and it was the best decision I made. It really was not as horrible as I thought it would be, actually it felt a little empowering (for once). I also knew that I was having another treatment the following day and didn't want to be in the " throws of chemo " and having my hair fall out at the same time (too much for me). As far as the germs go, I placed those squirt bottles of anti- bacterial around the house and everyone used them constantly. It worked for me, but you are going to be exposed to far more potential germs, but it sounds like you're on top of it. We're Patriot's fans here - so gooooooooo Pats! Hugs! Guest guest
like ellen said, it felt empowering to me as weell to do the buzz cut... one more thing - the majority of us got freakish constipation from the a/c...starting with my second a/c, I took a senecot each night, for a few days (the half-life of a/c is 24 hours)... marisa > > > > Okay, I had my first A/C chemo 10 days ago. Guest guest
In 2002 when I started my chemo I was going every three weeks and started loosing my hair after the first treatment...My hair dresser in Delaware shaved my hair...We went out on a Saturday before my first chemo and she helped me pick out a wig...I was working at the time and wore the wig when I was working...matter of fact I wore the wig most of the time...Dont wear the wig when you are around the stove cooking...eventually the front of the wig will get singed?....I also had radiation and after almost a year my hair started to come back...My hair came back a little darker brown and first it was a little curly then wavey and then went back to being straight like it used to be... Good luck with the chemo... Betsy Note: forwarded message attached.
Guest guest
eewwww! I had the constipation thing. NEVER a problem before in my whole life! Guest guest
Lucinda, When my hair came out (I also had AC followed by Taxol)...I first noticed a few strands of hair on my pillowcase, bath towel etc...then the hair loss came more quickly...every time I ran my hand thru my hair, washed/dried/brushed my hair, I got a handful of hair. I then went ahead and got the 'GI Jane' (or GI , as I called it :>) and although it was quite a shock to see at first, I quickly got used to and was glad I went ahead and did it! Good Luck! Guest guest
My hair started falling out about 2 weeks after my first treatment of A/C. I don't recall it falling onto my pillows or clothes, but I could run my fingers through my hair and it would come out in clumps. I did that for 2 straight days until I went bald.
