Guest guest
I have a friend who does not have diabetes but has very high cholesterol, she has been taking fish oil capsules and her cholesterol has dropped significantly. So it might also have some other beneficial effects if people have high cholesterol. How much are you taking? (I don't know how much she is taking, but I can ask if anyone wants to know.) Guest guest
Just a friendly reminder- I don't know anything about fish oil or other things but I would like to say that you should really discuss it with your doctor before starting anything new.....especially if you are on any kind of medications. ~Marisa --------------------------------- See the all-new, redesigned Yahoo.com. Guest guest
Thanks for the reminder Marisa. It actually was my doctor that prescribed the fish oil. I was really surprised to know that there is prescription strength fish oil capsules! Guest guest
Hi Jan~ I'm currently taking 4 capsules per day; two in the morning and two at night. The fish oil is called Omacor and the capsules are large compared to the capsules you can get over the counter. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me what the dose is, because I would like to know that too. ~Joan~ I have a friend who does not have diabetes but has very high cholesterol, she has been taking fish oil capsules and her cholesterol has dropped significantly. Guest guest
Be careful with the fish oil. I use to take them for depression because of the Omega3(5 or whatever). But I notice that my BG's started going bonkers the next morning after I took them in the evening. On most fish oil bottles (all but one brand to what I saw in Target) says do not take if you have diabetes. So really really talk to you doctor and monitor your BGs if you take them. Only bad back is that they do work great for depression and bipolar since fish oil chemicals helps balance the seritons chemical levels in your body. Guest guest
You can buy the same strength over the counter much cheaper. Guest guest
Flax seed oil is a good Omega3 also and I don't think it screws with your blood glucose as I've been taking it for a couple of years now. Guest guest
Marisa, You're right about checking with your doctor. I take Coumadin (blood thinner) and can NOT take fish oil. The combination can cause bleeding problems. This is in the capsule form only. I can EAT fish....I eat a lot of salmon....and it doesn't affect the blood thinning meds I take.
