Guest guest
Hi Topper, How wonderful you got a great night’s sleep. I must ask, though, you normally only get 3.5 hours a night? Why so? I live with a sleep-deprived mate and it’s not fun at all – why are you not sleeping? Sue <---ever curious! I had an awesome sleep last night... I decided to go to bed and 'pretend' that I was someplace else... So much of the 'intrusion waking' stuff ends up being anticipatory.. you end up going to bed with an attitude. I turned up my white noise... I snuggled down into bed.. and I told myself a story... in a soft whisper voice (don't go fallen on the floor laughing) I was setting myself up for a dream.. and sure enough.. I fell asleep and the story I started with is the dream that I continued on with.... I woke to roll over once during the night and then just a few minutes before the alarm would have gone off. I woke up feeling REALLY good this morning.. for a change... Got a bit over 7 hours of sleep... so nearly double what I get a lot of nights.... I'm glad that you're okay with the Troll description/definition.. if fits so well we may just have to keep using that one.... ehehehe Topper ()
Guest guest
I sleep just fine when it's quiet.... but when the other folks in the house have TVs blasting all night I end up just laying in bed waiting for them to shut them off. It has to do with a cold air intake vent for the heating system that is in the wall right by my bed... with the TVs so loud and that vent right next to my room it amplifies the sound.. not enough to hear the words or music.. .just a background rumble.. that is just enough to keep me aware that others are still up in the kitchen... which means that at any time they might decide to start banging around in there which then wakes me up.... On the other side of my room is the master bedroom.. there we have someone that needs the TV on to be able to go to sleep at night... mostly on a channel that is different from the one in the kitchen.. so I end up with stereo noise, from two sides... one an echoey rumbly noise and the other one muffled sound.... So.. that's how I go to bed at night.... In the morning.. from the master bedroom.. the alarm goes off at 4:45 every day of the week.... I lay down at 9.. usually watch the last hour of prime time TV.. and may or may not do a sponge bath and my lymph massage.. then I shut all my stuff off... except sometimes I will listen to an MP3 podcast... and just lay there... I try to be relaxed and quiet and 'pre-sleep' to allow my body to rest.. but often don't get the quiet time until 1 or 2 or 3 in the morning... then get woke up at 4:45... no matter how tired I am.... They are both hard of hearing and LOVE to fall asleep with the TV on and just don't get it... AND.. they figure since I don't do anything that it doesn't matter if I sleep or not... it's not like I'm going anywhere or have anything to accomplish... ... and they both love to nap during the day, in the nice comfy chairs in the kitchen (the main room of the house) with the TV on.... so they get a good nine hours of sleep a day... in shifts... and just don't understand how come I'm tired. During the Olympics a couple of years ago I flat out gave up sleeping.. I just stayed in here all night and mucked on the computer.. and the still didn't 'get it'..... sigh... Now give me a quiet night.... and I'm out like a light and sleep like a rock... I sleep really good, for the most part, when the folks are on vacation and my meds are right.... That's how come I know so well how much of an impact lack of sleep has on us... even though I delt with insomnia for years (that I actually fixed with the addition of adrenal glandular) I never understood it until that cold air vent got enlarged and REALLY amplified the sound from the kitchen... With insomnia I learned that rule 1 is ALWAYS go to bed at the same time, and get up at the same time, no matter what.... and Rule # 2 is that you NEVER take a nap during the day.. napping during the day just makes whatever is keeping you up at night harder to deal with..... My insomnia for all those years, I believe, was adrenal related.. my glands were miss firing and that's what kept me from going to sleep for the first few years, and then the waking thing during the night and inability to fall asleep again in later years. I'm the first to admit too that part of my problem with the noise keeping me from going to sleep is that conditioned response effect that had me unable to go back to sleep after a noise woke me.. that's why I can relate so well to what E is going through with the slamming doors.. that would have me up the rest of the night! Oh.. and to head off the question.. ear plugs won't work.. I have tinnitus... ear plugs do nothing more than block out the white noise (a fan) that I run to cancel the tinnitus and then I'm left with listening to the whistle in my ears AND the reverb through that air vent! eeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!! Guest guest
Wow, Topper, I have no idea how on earth you stay sane, let alone function. Each month, I have my cyclical symptoms which includes 3-4 nights of very disruptive sleep and I turn into a walking nightmare. Brain hurts, noise, lights, and driving is near-impossible but I have to function to work and be mom to my almost 12 year old daughter. I suppose if I woulda had my kids earlier in life that part would be easier since in don’t remember lack of sleep bothering me til about my mid-40s....... Sue I sleep just fine when it's quiet.... but when the other folks in the house have TVs blasting all night I end up just laying in bed waiting for them to shut them off. Guest guest
Topper, There is a wireless speaker system you can get that they can put next to thier heads & hear the TV much better then having it blasting. I just looked on e-Bay & sets were going for under 40.00. ( make them pay) Also, have you thought of putting some sort of insulation around the inside & outside of the tube? Maybe pick up some sheets of styrofoam from behind a furniture store, the you can cut to size. If it were me, I would start blating my TV & making all sorts of noise AFTER they all went to sleep, for a few nights, then I would sit them down at the table & say....ok.... I have had it, we ALL have to get some sleep & we need a shut off time we can all live with. Or you can always interupt the daily nap.....lol...trip, drop something in a lap or two. I used to own a house with my sister & parents. My room was next to the kitchen & My sis & mom were always fighting, hubby would get up & tell them to go to the other room to fight or shut up. After a time then quit fighting in the kitchen. Good Luck getting them to be quiet. Cindy Sue
Guest guest
Good suggestions... but... not my house not their problem if I don't like it leave If I had a place to go, I wouldn't be here. So their solutions are really simple.. and if I had a place to go.. well... it would be simple. .... I"m up for adoption.... *wink* Topper () On Mon, 12 Feb 2007 20:54:01 -0000 "Cindy" writes: Topper, There is a wireless speaker system you can get that they can put next to thier heads & hear the TV much better then having it blasting. Guest guest
While we are talking about this, Ithought I would mention that after skipping my armour yesterday, I had broken sleep, waking up for no apparent reason at 5 am. I have felt pretty yicky all day, but I did make it across many town to get my doggy to the Vet. Guest guest
I'm going to try and explain this... I have the experience occasionally of reading normally and then looking at the page again and having it just be words. The words are not jumbled or backward or anything but I will have trouble getting my eyes/brain to process going left to right and comprehending it all. A few minutes later, it will be gone. Does anyone else have this problem? I will transpose letters & numbers occasionally but not daily. I'm just curious to see if it's a hypo thing or just one of those pleasant 'side effects' of thyroid wonder. Ideas?? Can anyone explain to me the actual medical reason of why this happens? Guest guest
: There are many articles that go into all the effects thryoid has on brain function. They will tell you that any kind of brain disfunction, spanning the gamut, all the way to brain deadness is/or can be an outgrowth of hypo. Some refer to it as mxydema coma. In infants its called Mongaloid Idiocy (not anymore, but it was for many years). In my case, I used to be intelligent (probably one of the sharpest people I ever met)...and now its terribly frustrating to be a mere shadow of my former self. I'm easily confused, hae a terribly time making decisions and repeat myself a lot, I sometimes have trouble reading, following the news...or following whether the person I'm talking to actually makes sense. I tend to think they do...when they don't. My memory is not sharp like it was...and I tend to have a hard time..charting out priorities in my head, even during a conversation. Doctors have always been quick to laugh in my face when I tell them...cuz a brain is good thing to waste as long as its not theirs, I suppose. No one in my life cares that this is so distressing either. EVEN my best friend was laughing at me today, and said " I can't believe you ever were a sales rep...WHEN YOU CAN never make a decision....how could you ever sell anything that way???? LOL...HA HA. YEAH...what a riot!!! E...is moron...and probably always was...that is so totally funny!!!! This friend of mine..has never had her thyroid removed and GUESS what????...SHE was never EVEN remotely as smart as me. I saved her from her own stupidity sooooo many times. I even got her taking Armour and she is losing weight now, making good money at a job where I have been instrumental and YES..I gave her some great tips on how to date the right way...AND guess who just got a new boyfriend for Valentine's DAY? YES..so..I'm the creatin that gets the scorn...cuz I'm caught up in my apartment/can't buy a sofa ordeal. I think, a lot of folks wrestling with thyroid will tell the worste part of thyroid issues are the mental aspects. I know...I envied people without limbs really badly for a while there, thinking that was a far better fate. (I know that is terrible of me...but as rude as is...its true). Scientifically....you can find articles with pictures showing you that the latest MRI scan now indicates low t3 or low t4 actually makes the brain shrink. It would look to a doctor as if you are stroking. ~E:) --- Teague medstudent2be@...> wrote: > I'm going to try and explain this... Guest guest
That sounds a little like low blood sugar. Do you have a problem with that? I know that I'm at an all time low when I can't put a sentence together. Just wondering... Judy I'm going to try and explain this... Guest guest
I don't think it's low blood sugar as I eat really well and regularly. I have noticed that I've been stammering a bit with my words which is clearly a thyroid hormone problem for me. I'm almost back to normal after the 'gassing'. Daily I improve so I know by the weekend I should be okay. Thankfully I don't have to work after Wednesday . Then I can just chill out and rest. I do occasionally monitor my blood sugar levels just to make sure I'm not dropping. I decided I would fast and test my sugar when it was low and then when it was normal so that I would be able to tell the difference from regular thyroid/adrenal problems and low blood sugar or (low bs as I just thought of calling it tonight LOL). Here that guys, I have a low BS factor LOL!! j/k. I have noticed that adding fish oil back into my diet helps. I've been having slight pms symptoms (hot flashes, hormonally feeling off.... I don't know how to explain it but as a woman you can tell, you know?) and I only get them before my period which has already passed and sometimes after. My coordination is mostly back now and I am now at the point where I only dropped my keys once today. Yay!! I'm sleeping well and while still tired very functional. I do notice though that I do well through out the day but around 8-9pm I start getting tired. My sleep time used to be 10-11pm so I think with staying up a bit later which is super bad of me, the time is creeping up sooner and sooner. I do notice when my blood sugar drops my arms start to feel weighty... particularly my upper arms & upper thighs. Ironically those are the areas that are more 'weighty' due to my adrenals being out of whack. Actually, I can't tell if it's blood sugar or slight anemia that does that. It only happens if I don't eat all day. If I eat 3 meals and snack on and off through out the day like normal I'm fine. Interestingly enough my allergy doc said that my food allergies came back without showing any reactions in my blood work. The nurse told me that I could still have reactions, so to just be careful. I saw a medical show on the Discovery Channel about a woman who was stung by 500+ honey bees in her yard. She went into a coma due to the reaction and no one knew if she would live or not. Interestingly enough, when she came out of it, she no longer suffered from arthritis and still keeps the bees. lol. That got me thinking... maybe all those months in the moldy/mildewy apartment, eventhough it was incredibly bad for me... maybe it helped to boost my immunity to some of the reactions. Truthfully, I feel like I'm grasping at straws because I don't really know why now living in this new place, that my allergies are 90% better... I still sneeze and have very minor symptoms but no more heart pain, no more facial burning... nothing. See, this is why I really want to go to medical school... I just want to connect the dots of the mystery LOL. Thanks Judy . Re: Topper's sleeplessness That sounds a little like low blood sugar. Do you have a problem with that? Guest guest
, that does happen to me, but just figured I was getting old (44 this month). Maybe it's the thyroid.Which by the way I swear I can feel when I am late with my dose of Armour. I was watching T.V., a movie and my throat starting feeling weird, right where my thyroid is, and I thought, ooops, forgot the second dose. Does that happen to anyone?JackieI'm going to try and explain this... I have the experience occasionally of reading normally and then looking at the page again and having it just be words. Guest guest
I'd like to hear the answer to this too!!! I have what I call intermittent dyslexia.... I'll be fine for weeks.. then a half dozen times in one day I'll transpose words or numbers... I can mess it up bad enough on that one day to make me double check things all the rest of the time... It's not consistent enough to determine if there is a direct cause and effect... It is more often and severe the lower my dose is though.. so a lot more in the last year than the year before... and it hasn't happened since I've started back on hormone.... Interesting.. I was beginning to link it to being an old age thing... but maybe it's not??? How many others have anything like this?? Does anyone else have this problem? I will transpose letters & numbers occasionally but not daily. I'm just curious to see if it's a hypo thing or just one of those pleasant 'side effects' of thyroid wonder. Ideas?? Can anyone explain to me the actual medical reason of why this happens? Guest guest
When I'm late on a dose I'll start yawning... not really feeling tired at first.. but yawning.. then I'll dose off... if I force myself to stay awake I'll start getting the teary eye thing.. like when you are REALLY REALLY tired and then eyes well and tear when you yawn.... I get the weirdest stares.. cuz I'll casually yawn a couple of times and it won't register.. then I do the 'jaw cracker' yawn, look at the clock and then run grab my pill box!!! Guest guest
Yes... my glad feels like (I swear) like it starts to pump and goes... unh uh, not enough.. and then my brain goes 'OH THYROID!!' and I run and get my pills LOL. My gland has this 'just massaged' feeling to it when that happens... hard to explain. So yeah, I know what you mean. Guest guest
This is very interesting. When I worked for Red Cross, I had a client who had arthritis years before. She said that she took bee propolis (sp?) and the arthritis went away and never came back. Doctor's don't know this stuff. I hope you'll be one of the better ones... Judy I saw a medical show on the Discovery Channel about a woman who was stung by 500+ honey bees in her yard. We won't tell. Guest guest
Well, I don't know about the crackers....doing a conversion help. I think they help my tummy and the sugar...helps to settle me a bit for some reason. Maybe its a hypoglycemia thing. Dunno. I did take my morning dose of armour and synthroid..(only 15mgs of armour) and then I corked right out! LAST night...now, I just had all kinds of broken sleep..(due to something wrong with me)...and don't know what it is. I only ever took that 15mgs first thing in the am and didn't touch any for the rest of the day. I wonder if I had taken another 15mgs if I would have tossed and turned so much.. ~E:) --- topper2@... wrote: > Hmmm that bit of a snack... kicked up some > conversion in your body?? > > I wonder.... > > Ohhh poor puppy.. have you posted pics of him yet? > > Topper () > > On Mon, 12 Feb 2007 18:02:22 -0800 (PST) E Gillespie > lyongillespie@...> writes: > > > > > > While we are talking about this, Ithought I would > > mention that after skipping my armour yesterday, I > had > > broken sleep, waking up for no apparent reason at > 5 > > am. > > > > I then ate some crackers and went back to > bed....feel > > wonderfully, deeply into deep, deep sleep with > dreams > > and all only to BE SLAmMMED...SLaMMED....SLAMMED > some > > more...until I gave up at > > 10:37 AM. > > > > I have felt pretty yicky all day, but I did make > it > > across many town to get my doggy to the Vet. Guest guest
At the sleep lab, the guy told me that snacks before bed help people sleep. He never told me what the mechanisim is. Guest guest
I guess it depends on how hungry you are and what you eat. When I was having sugary evening snacks, I had night sweats all night, then I switched the snack to a more healthy one and woke up, but without the sweats, now I'm not eating after dinner and sleeping like a baby... Guest guest
I definitely know it's not old age as I'm turning 27 in May... of course, if I were an Ancient Egyptian, that would have made me an old woman as most died by the time they were 30. andrea Re: Topper's sleeplessness I'd like to hear the answer to this too!!! Guest guest
Sometimes when I don't eat before bed (from 6pm on), I'll wake up the next morning and feel hungry and my sugar will be low. I usually wake up more with the adrenal shakes... from trying to output so much at once. Re: Topper's sleeplessness At the sleep lab, the guy told me that snacks beforebed help people sleep. Guest guest
You've got it! LOL. Do you have D.O.s over there (Osteopaths)? I've been seeing them for about a year now and they seem to listen a lot better. They're trained to look at the whole person, not just a symptom... Guest guest
We have a few D.O.s here although not many do straight thyroid work. Most of them have went into other specialties but I'm hoping with the D.O. medical school being open eventually we'll get some good quality docs here. That is exactly why I favor a holistic approach to medicine and life. Too many people just forget that there's a person in there... we may not always be around and our lights may not always be on, but we're there. Re: Topper's sleeplessness You've got it! LOL.
