Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this message board/support group. I was diagnosed with

hypothyroidism in October. I suspect I had it for quite awhile as

the symptoms have been present for years...I finally complained to

my doc about all of them at once, and a lightbulb went off. So,

have been on Synthroid ever since. One dosage change so far

(increase from 50-75 mcgs).

Here's my question: Do any of you suffer from anxiety and

sleeplessness, or depression as a result of this disease? I'm having

a good deal of difficulty now that I'm being medicated-which seems

counter-intuitive. Not that I wasn't anxious or lethargic before,

but now I have these great swings in my mood that are so unusual for

me. In addition, sleeping has become troublesome too...Mind races

at night or I wake up with a racing mind, etc.

Any advice, stories or just acknowledgement -I'd be so grateful...

Thank you,

It's your adrenal glands reacting to the increase in hormone.. it's not

at all uncommon.. have your doc check your adrenal levels... there are

supplements that will help them along until everything gets adjusted...

Has the doc checked for the cause.. why your thyroid is under producing?

When are you due for you next labs?

Can you post your latest labs for us to oggle, with the lab's ranges?

... and welcome to our little family!!!!

Hi .

I am also new to the group and I had linked what you are describing with menopasue in general actually.

I am 56 and since I turned 50 I have had all the typical symptoms; sleeplessness, acute hotflashes plus extreme chilliness but it's now getting better.

Oh, and unable to concentrate is another symptom...

--Hi Topper

Thanks for your help. My doctor has only informed me that my

thyroid was underproducing. I asked if it was hashimoto's but she

said no-sometimes thyroids just stop. I'm 31.

I think that I may seek out an endocronologist. Perhaps that would

be more helpful for me-until then I'll try to work with my gp. My

most recent labs were taken this past saturday-i'll know the results

today and post them asap.

Thanks and I appreciate your help!
