Guest guest
Hello list. I just stumbled on this list because I have had trouble with my thyroid. I have medication and have had for the last 4 years but wanted advise anyway. 4 years ago when I stopped smoking my thyroid suddenly gave up. I had a goiter years before which was operated on and I only had the one half left. In two months I gained around 15 kilograms (around 30 lbs.) I'm on Euthyrox but have gradually been gaining weight ever since. I am not a big eater at all and I have an active dog ( Dalmatian) whom I need to walk regularly so I get some exercise. I live in Reykjavík, Iceland and my name is Jóhanna. Best Jóhanna
Guest guest
Hi Johanna.... that's the closest my keyboard can come to spelling your name.... welcome.. You're our first from Iceland I believe! Euthyrox, if I'm not mistaken, is a synthetic T4 med... like our brand name Synthroid (US).... when did you last have labs run? Any chance that you can post them, with labs' ranges, so that we can see what things look like? How much Euthyrox are you taking each day? What was your original diagnosis, the reason for having part of your gland removed and starting on the hormone replacement? It could be that your gland production has dropped more and your dosage needs to be adjusted.. that would be my first guess.. but we need more info... we're nosy here ya know!! *wink* hehehe Topper () On Sun, 11 Feb 2007 10:08:27 -1000 =?iso-8859-1?Q?J=F3hanna_H=E1konard=F3ttir?= writes: Hello list. Guest guest
Hi again. Don't worry about the ó. In Icelandic it sounds like your o anyway. I was at the doctor's the other day and she said nothing had changed. I'm afraid I don't have the results with me. That is not the practice here. I suppose I could but I have never asked for them. I take around 500 mgr. pr. week if I´m reading the information correctly. It's 1,5 tablets per day at least and the ingredient is Levothyroxine sodium it says on the package. Originally I developed a benign growth in one part of my thyroid and it was cut away. That was some years ago. My half thyroid worked fine for many years and then 4 years ago it was no longer working properly. What's the difference between T4 and T3 anyway? At my doctors I got a receipt for a new diet pill called Acomplia. It is supposed to make me thinner and it seems to have started working already. I am losing weight. I have gained 25 kilograms during these last 4 years and am not happy about it. The reason I went to the doctor now is I tire rather easily even if I'm supposed to be on the right dosage. I go mountaiclimbing with my dog and my lungs "whistle" when I am climbing. I need a lot of breaks on the way up I can tell you. Thanks for your answer Topper Best Jóhanna. Guest guest
You can read more about the hormones, meds and tests at our website.... www.thyrophoenix.com/thyroid_101.htm that will give you some of the basics so that stuff makes more sense.... I'm confused about your dosage amount... could you double check to make sure that you wrote it right... if you did, we're gonna have to figure out what the equivalent would be in mcg... Yes, Levothyroxine Sodium is synthetic T4... like our Synthroid... Watch out with that diet pill.. depending on what it is doing to your body to stimulate weight loss you might have other problems... if it's stimulator it will be further stressing your adrenals.. if it's an absorption blocker it's going to affect how your body is processing and absorbing your hormone dosage.... Once your thyroid hormone levels are where they should be.. weight is much easier to manage without adding drugs. IMHO, of course. Guest guest
Many thanks for your advise and I'll check the dosage again. I went to the website but am a little confused about what it all means (posssibly related to different languages). My doctor is a specialist in glands (whatever that is called in English) and is a young woman so I feel relatively safe. It's now night-time in Iceland so I'll have to bid you good night.
