Guest guest
I will give them a call. I checked with a company called MedTurn and they quoted a minimum fee of $750.00 to dispose of 4 vials of morphine. Seems excessive to me since I paid less than $5 for the medication to start with. Is anyone else facing this problem? Re:Expired Controlled Medicaitons We use a company called Universal Solutions, Conyers, Georgia. Phone# Fax# You call them for an authorization number and they send you an application for reverse Form 222. They have a lengthy and well documented process. You fill out an application for each individual type of medication. You send the application to the DEA for the reverse 222. Everything is signed by the holder of your controlled substance certificate. When we started our very first return of expired controlled medications, we started in Dec. 2004 and finally shipped around April 2005. I am curious to see what other companies are out there. Guest guest
We are facing the same problem here. Smaller cities can't afford the excessive costs to dispose of these medications appropriately. We have not disposed of any, waiting for something more costly to come along. Guest guest
There is currently a lot of concern over disposal of prescription waste from an environmental standpoint too. From the EPA's report on the Healtchare Industry: " The management of unused prescription drugs may involve oversight by state and local governments and several federal agencies, including the EPA. The Agency does not currently have specific regulations regarding the disposal of expired or waste prescription medications into sanitary sewer systems, nor does EPA’s Office of Water have analytical methods to assess the existence of many pharmaceutical compounds in water or wastewater. The Agency, however, is aware of increasing concerns about the potential for pharmaceuticals in water and is reviewing the current state of knowledge and coordinating with other governmental and research agencies.
